There is an artist that I'm thinking of who was traumatized as a child when they found their dead mother's face covered with a veil. I can't think of who it is, but a famous painting was done by them portraying a man and a woman kissing, but their heads are covered with veils.

If anyone could please tell me who this artist is, it'd be greatly appreciated.

The only artist I know of who's mother died at an early age, and who painted this several times, was Edvard Munch. I know at least one of his paintings showed veiled people (it was a painting of a wake for his dead mother).

Rene Magritte did paint a painting of veiled lovers but I don't think his mother died when he was young. Could it be you've gotten the two artists somehow mixed up?

I think it might be Rene Magritte, see link below.

Edit: Magritte's mother died when he was about 14 or so.
