Not only man destroys the habitats of endangered species, but also hunting (legal or illegal) and commercial trafficking of them is adding new species daily to the list of extinction.
The ecological chain has been broken, the ballance of nature is uncurably disturbed, and mankind is just a link of the chain that's falling apart.
In addition forest fires and pollution of every kind has led to violent climate changes, entire territories become deserts, and water is begining to be an endangered good.
Scientists have given a time limit of 30 years more for mankind until it gets totaly extinct because of lack of oxygene and water.

So many people are wrapped up in their own lifes with luxury, love, and fluffy kittens that they don't even realize what's going on around them. It seems selfish, but it is true. Why else would so many people still use their gas guzzling cars, realize that we are in a global warming, and yet still use their cars to go practically nowhere? So many people in the US are so dependent on them that it's disgusting. Whenever they need to go to the market right around the corner of the street they just HAVE to bring their car. Stupid, right? Yet, so true.
If you want to read a really good book that discusses these issues, I'd suggest to read, "Man without a Country" by Kurt Vonnegut. I've read it, and although I disagree with some of the problems he raises, he still makes very good points.

Who said we think we are not?

In my idea cockroaches and crows are the next super beings.

Crocodiles and sharks, which have been around for more than 3 million years aren't going anywhere either.

Humans? Those puny little things? We DESERVE to go extinct for everything we have done to this planet. Isn't it time to see finally that we are only one member in this large family that is called nature?

Paradox! Isn't it?
See once upon a time Israel was the one who is being killed. (by Hitler) Now they are killing. Now America is the one who is killing, who knows if the same thing won't happen to them as well. It's all about power who has it also has the rights to give the other ones the wall or even kill them.
That's what exactly has been going on, in the world nowadays.

I think we all know that we are going to destroy the earth so much that it will be unlivable. But no one believes that it will happen in his lifetime. See some of the previous answers. People only care about themselves and their children. They don't care what will happen afterwards.
