Some cats will only drink moving water. It has something to do with instinctual survival something or other. There are cats who if they do not have access to running water will become dehydrated or have UTI trouble. I would buy your cat a water fountain made for cats and let him drink from that. When I got my cats one they drank much more water which is very important for them especially on dry food. Especially males because they are the ones that usually have the UTI troubles.

We simply stopped turning the faucet on for them. We would ignore them when they jumped up or move them somewhere else. After a couple of days they both started drinking from their water bowl. I was worried at first because they are stubborn cats, but in the end it was worth it.
Oh, we also bought them a new stainless steel bowl and that seemed to help. I think part of the problem was they didn't like the plastic one.

I know people who allow a water bowl IN the sink with a slight drip of water from the faucet to keep it full (one drip per minute), but that wastes water.
I've set decoy cups out to get ours to drink--some just don't like to drink out of a bowl on the floor, so a large mug on the table that's got water to the brim worked with those.
There's also 'fountain' cat water bowls which have running water. You plug it in and a small motor keeps the water circulating. It's geared to interest cats who want running water.

Maybe put a baggie around the faucet when you aren't around it and secure it with a rubber band so that the cat can't lick it. Place the water bowl near the sink along side his water dish. Your cat will learn =)

My cat was super picky about her water too. It wasnt cold or fresh enough. She would drink from the toilet or faucet too...Then I bought this Water Cooler thing. It looks like a cooler you would see in the office or something, and it supplies the water as it is needed. It lasts forever, and I have 3 cats. And the water is always super cool. Shes loves it. It only costs like $10.00 from walmart. its called "Le Bistro" by PetMate. This is a great buy for you and your pets. Less Work for Pet Owners

Maybe, you could block the faucet so that your cat won't drink out of it. Or you could put something around it so that he won't be able to drink from it. Put water in a bowl for him.( if you didn't have yet)

mmm, what you could do is leave water bowls in 4 or 5 different places around the house, maybe he will want to drink from any of them...OR you can buy a special bowl for water, is like a mini water fountain that keeps on the fun of falling water, they see the falling water as something exciting, my cat likes to drink water from the bathroom sink XD, so to make it fun you can buy that special water bowl, it's not too expensive ^_^

lol. my cat does the same thing or she will go into the bathroom after someone showers and drinks water out of the bath tub. i dont think theres necessarily anything you can do to stop this behavior some cats prefer doing things their own way like humans. my cats eat dry food too and always have fresh water but still want to drink out of the sinks and bath tub. i guess its their preference!

Try getting a water bowl that is circulating like a fountain. Cats tend not to like stagnant water.
