I am a Christian and have been my whole life but recently there is a question that I just don't know the answer to. How do we know that our religion is better than all other religions in the world? What do you say to those who say that religion is made up by society to bring meaning to life and use evidence that almost every society has had some kind of religion. How are we to know Christianity is the one true religion? Thanks everyone!!!

Read James 1:27 which says what religion is.
Christianity is a way of life.
Christian means "Christ-like" as we endeavor to be.
Christianity is living a Christ-like life. We are human and fail, but God sees us through His son, Jesus, who makes us acceptable to God.
Back to James 1:27 "Pure religion and undefiled before God is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."
So if you can rid the word 'religion' from your vocabulary in the reference with which you use it, you wont be burdened with questions that are invalid to begin with.
I believe it is said that every religion has some form of redemption. Perhaps said, but Christianity is a way of living and not a religion.
YOUR answers can come by prayer if you take your questions to God. Ask God to show you. God is awesome and just may teach you in a way that you KNOW it is an answer from HIM. If you are struggling with disbelief, you can take it to God, tell Him you are struggling and ask for His help in your disbelief. I am not saying you are struggling with disbelief, just a word for you. Jesus, Teacher, says he is the True Vine.

Good question. I've also been a Christian my whole life and have wondered the same thing. I have come across some answers; don't know if they'll work for u, but here they are:
1. I have a close relationship with my Lord, Jesus Christ.
2. I'm a changed person because of knowing Him.
3. The Bible HAS validated itself through the writings of prophecies which, in turn, have been accurately fulfilled.
4. Many times I should have been killed; God spared my life.
5. The beauty of God's creation all around (ie: plenty of evidence to disprove evolution).
6. HOPE; purpose for living in a sin-filled world.
7. Evil, itself, provides evidence of 2 forces struggling against each other (the conflict between Christ and Satan).
8. Heck, I can take that one further; no other religion in the world considers the great controversy to be an explanation for why we have sin and death in the world!
9. Angels (some other religions do believe in the existence of angels but not in the context that's most evidential: good & evil angels.
10. Christianity is the only religion in which our Diety loves His created beings enough to die for them while they're His enemies!

I, too, have hit times in my life where I have had to question what I believed in. When I hit those times, I read the Bible to find answers, and I prayed. And I thought about what I read, what I had already experienced in life, about prayers that had been answered. I have always come back to see that Christianity has the answers.

These other people who are talking with you aren't asking the right question. This isn't a question about which religion is better. The question is: How is one reconciled to God? Note that in other religions, man has to work to gain God's approval. But Jesus says, " I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." The Bible also says, " For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast."

Now some religions try to tell you that there are many ways to God. But Jesus spells it out. He is the only way to the Father.

Societies have different religions. That doesn't mean they are all legitimate. And Jesus tells us the one way. There aren't MANY ways. There is only one. Your answer is in your bible. You need to really read it.

I am Catholic. Here's what I think:

Choosing the one true religion isn't like a race or even a goal. Growing spiritually is a journey which is a reward in itself. The promises of Heaven will be delivered to those that pursue them.

Choose a theology or philosophy and follow it.

If you figure out everything it has to offer, it wasn't the true religion. You're at a dead end and you should start over.

If you can't choose one, try more than one. I would say sitting alone with intent to compare and contrast ideologies would not work. I think you have to celebrate your faith with others if you want to understand God.

If you want some help choosing a starting place, I say start with a group that holds these 2 laws above all others:
- Love God with all your heart
- Love your neighbor as you love yourself

Short answer to a very complex question. To test any faith, or belief system, I would use three tests:

1. Credibility of the witnesses: Before a witness can testify in a court of law, both sides try to establish his credibility, or lack thereof. Is this guy likely to be telling the truth? What are his motives? What is his track record, etc.

2. Authentication of the manuscripts: Before a document is presented in a court of law, it has to be authenticated. Is this document really what the presenter says it is? For ancient manuscripts the most common tests used are the number of existing manuscripts, corroborating evidence supporting the purported facts in the manuscripts (i.e. other historical sources), and proximity of time between the creation of the manuscript and the event that it records.

3. Fruit of the tree test. What type of fruit does the religion or belief system produce? Does it promote love and truth, or strife and confusion? Does it result in selfishness, or in helping those in need?

There are other tests to establish the veracity of any religion or belief system, but I believe these main ones are the most useful to me. I only scratched the surface in each of these categories. Each one deserves a question and several answers of its own.

Sounds life you haven't really come to believe yet. Read the gospels. If they are convincing to you, if you are convinced that Jesus of the Bible is believable, then you've answered your question.

Feel free however to study other religions like Islam and see that there is just no comparison to the kind of documentary evidence found in Biblical Christianity.

(For some comparison of the bible vs the Koran see http://www.bcbsr.com/topics/islam.html)

It all comes down to this - Jesus said he was the "Way, the Truth, and the Life". He is either right or wrong. There can be no other way of looking at it. If he is not the Way, the Truth, and the Life then he is wrong and nothing he said matters. If he is the Way, the Truth, and the Life then there is no other way to God.

When we get to heaven, we will know the truth. But now it is our choice. Do you believe in Jesus? Do you believe that he spoke the truth? That is the question.

I do because he is real and a part of my life. I believe everything he has said.

I recommend you buy - or check out from the library - one or more books on support for Christianity. There has been a lot of research done that supports the validity of the bible. I'm reading one called "Examine the Evidence." It's a good book, but kind of lengthy and written in a very intellectual tone, if you like that sort of thing. It describes how science supports the bible and gives other historical supporting evidence. I've also heard "The Case for Christ" is good. These things will give you some basis when discussing religion with people question it.

There are many reasons I believe Christianity is the one true religion. For one, the validity of the bible supports it. It is the most reliable historical document. People believe what they read in their history textbooks in school, but the bible has been proven to be more valid. Another thing that separates Christianity from other religions is miracles - no other messiah performed them. Also, other religions list things you have to do in order to be forgiven and saved. But, with Christianity, it has already been done for you. That is one big difference.

Both the fact that:

All Prophecies in the Bible to date have been fulfilled
RIGHT ON TIME, and IN THE WAY DESCRIBED in the prophecies; and

The simple yet extremely accurate descriptions in the Bible of things that mankind didn't discover or prove for himself, until centuries later.

Those^, combined with logical reasoning, good sense, and
a thorough study --without bias-- of the entire Scriptures, are Very Convincing. The fact that true science & true religion do NOT contradict one another, is likewise Very Reasuring. Add to that, that the Bible teaches that Christianity (*as taught in the Bible*, not as taught by those warned about by Christ) is the only true religion...

That is how we know...

“Do not put your trust in nobles, nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs.” (Psalm 146:3)

"Trust in Jehovah with all your heart and do not lean upon your own understanding. In all your ways take notice of him, and he himself will make your paths straight." --Proverbs 3:5,6

Hey man,
Buddha is in his tomb, along with Confucious,Mohammed and everyone in history who ever claimed to be God EXCEPT JESUS. Christianity is the ONLY religion based on an empty tomb.

Act 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

The name of Jesus is the only name given in ANY religion that saves people from their sin.
