And saw Abdul Wahab's response below. If a muslim female can't wear capris to go play tennis, and has to wear a hijab or burka as Abdul suggests, it'd be a wonder that any muslim women got any physical exercise in their lives. Some may respond that they can do this in the privacy of their own home. But that just doesn't cut it. Part of modern living/society is being engaged with your fellow humans. What's the point of doing anything if it's going to be constrained to one's private domain?

You'd be surprised what it is possible to do, even in an environment that is segregated by sex.

I read an expose of Saudi Arabia from the 80's. Women still went to the gym and taught aerobics classes in full spandex clothing, only there were no men around.

That doesn't mean that prohibitions on clothing aren't insane or reduce mobility. I would much rather that everyone has the freedom to congregate or wear whatever they want.

Note: теаваĠ•Μ℮, that is unlikely. I don't think it's possible to do Kegels when the average birthrate is five kids per woman and it's likely that your privates have been mutilated to control your sexual behavior.

Well being a recent convert myself I also wondered about physical activity. I have been a practicing Muslim for 3 years now, and in fact I weigh less now than I did prior to converting. There are many ways in which to get exercise. I have a treadmill in my home. In some areas we are lucky enough to have Muslim ran facilities for exercise the men and women are simply on different floors, this is so that the woman may exercise free from Hi-jab. Men being on the first floor and women on the second, there is tennis, basketball, racket ball, and gym equipment available. Men are strictly forbidden to enter this floor. I also play with my children out doors, the hi jab is not as restrictive as one might think. There are many different types of hijab available some are better for exercise than others!

Being Jewish and orthodox I can tell you it is very possible to get exercise while wearing long skirts; women play tennis, walk, jog, etc; it is not a problem.
And as far as going to a gym; there are plenty of gyms for women only where a woman can wear comfortable workout clothes and still retain her modesty.

According to an article that I saw in the National Geographic once, women in Saudi Arabia can wear shorts and tights while exercising in women's only gyms and women's only exercise classes.

I go to the gym just about every other day and i'm muslim, they have all women gyms.

My brother goes to the gym at night because he tries to go when there are not many women to stop temptation. unfortunately there are not all men gyms.So this modest behavior is not only for women but also for men.

we can do a sport if that is not harmful for us (same goes for men too)

- second: we only have to cover ourselves fully in front of men, BUT we have to cover our awrats in front of women as well (awrat is what in between the navel and the knees)

- Abdul Wahhab meant: not to expose our bodies when we play tennis since it is played outdoor so men can see you

I don't need to play tennis to get exercise.

Walking is exercise, so is jogging.

I can socialise when I'm exercising and when I'm not exercising,
