She's Come Undone by Wally Lamb ... I think you will love it! I seem to be exactly the same as you describe yourself to be and this book was perfect for me so it may be a great fit for you. Good luck :)

Well, gathering from what you've said, I think you need a good laugh or something inspirational. I read a lot of Daily Affirmation books- (not too religious- just uplifting passages to get me through the day- one really good one I'd recommend is one called, "A Time For Joy" by Ruth Fishel. (you can go to barnes & noble.com and type in the keyword for "Daily Affirmations" if you want ideas) When I was checking out the affirmation books, I came across one that made me laugh because it's a parody of affirmation books. It's called, "You Are Worthless: Depressing Nuggets Of Wisdom Sure To Ruin Your Day" by Dr. Oswald Pratt. ( I suffer from low self esteem as well, so sometimes it's good to laugh about it, I think, anyway." Also, I just finished this really interesting book called, "Beautiful Stranger" by Hope Donohue. This is her story of growing up, and not feeling good enough, even though she was a debutante, had a Masters degree, and was beautiful. Her self esteem was so low that she unfortunately had her nose, cheeks, lips, and eyes done by the time she was only 24! She started going to the plastic surgeon obsessively, foolishly thinking that if she were *more* beautiful on the outside, she would somehow feel *whole* inside. But she conquered her obsessions...I won't ruin it for you if you decide to read it. Personally, I thought it was fascinating. I'm also thinking about moving to Portland, Oregon, and I bought a book called, "Fugitives and Refugees" by Chuck Palahniuk (he wrote, "Fight Club") but this book is all about his journeys and experiences in Portland, which is what I am interested in now. I could give you a hundred more recommendations, but you might not like them all! I mostly read nonfiction. But if you're just cruising around online, either go to Amazon.com or Barnes and Noble.com and you can check out titles, and authors, and what the people who have read the books thought about them. Good luck!

From what I've read about you, THE book I would recommend is "It's only too late if you don't start now"...

Here's a link:
