The difference please...Caput succedaneum vs. cephalhematoma has to do with the first being a misshapen head and the second specifically with one cranial bone?

Caput succedaneum (or just "caput" for short) occurs when bleeding is between the skin and the periosteum. Caput can cross suture lines.

Cephalhaematoma occurs when the bleeding is between the periosteum and the bone. In this instance, the haematoma would be limited by the region where the periosteum is well stuck down to the bone - at the sutures - and does not cross suture lines.
