My shopping list would be a Tiny Torpedo, A Zara-spook(use a walk the dog jerking retrieve on that), some spinnerbaits assorted colors(white, chartreuse, black), some small jigs with small Sassy-shads(great for pan-fish/bass), some small grub-tails for the jigs......also get some worm hooks and some sluggo's and rig them weed less and toss them in the weeds, last but not least buy one good size dare-devil and make sure you buy some 8inch 18 lb "invisa-leaders" from south -bend from walmart that's protection from pike teeth.....
now don't go crazy buying 5 or 6 of each ....... one of each will get you started............

It was always the one lure we thought we had thought up first but ended up on the shelves by some one else because our lazy butts thought no one would ever find out about it. Now it's being brought back as a new idea to add salt to the injury and here we are asking about a lure we wished we thought up first or at least had it patented. So in short, no lure revolutionized anything, only the anglers who dared to think outside the box.~good luck catchin'.

Explosives....just kidding
found it best to teach the novice fisherman to use #2 to #5 Mepps Silver or gold Spinners tipped with 2" white / purple / chartruese twister tails...there easy to cast and catch just about every thing that swims

I have gone on cabin-vaca's frequently in North MN and WI.
I think for a 1st timer on vacation in the "North-wood's" your tackle box should have:
1. 10-12 Black Jighead's in 1/4 OZ size
2. 10-12 Black Jighead's in 1/8 OZ size
3. 10-12 "Glow" Jighead's in 1/8 OZ size
4. 10-12 "Green" Lindy WideGap Jighead's in1/4 OZ size.
5. 6-7 4" Original Floating Rapala's (2 "Perch" colored, 3 "Shiner" colored, 2 "Gold" colored).
6. 2 pk's of Storm Swimbait's in "Perch Color's".
7. 3 cork's
8. Various baithooks ( size 6, size 1, size 1/0)
9.1 bottle of Bait-mate or YUM fish attractant to spray on your lures to make them "taste" alive to the fish.
10. Various "split-shot" weight's.
11. 3 pkg's of Black-colored Berkley "PowerBait" Grub-body's, (to put on your jig's when you aren't using bait!)
12. "Low-Viz" wire leader's
The jig's will work the best if "baited" with a "live Leech" or a "Fat-head" minnow. You can catch anything with a Leech or Fathead minnow baited on a black 1/8-1/4 OZ Jig. (Cast the jig/minnow out, wait for it to sink to the bottom, reel it in slowly!)
Rapala's and Storm Swimbait's are excellent lures for Bass, Northern's, & Walleye (Rapala: Cast it out as far as you can, wait for the "ripples" to stop, slowly reel it in. Storm: Cast it out, reel it in with a medium retrieve.). Make sure to "sweeten" your lures with Fish attractant!
You can , of course, add "spoon's", "topwater lures", "spinnerbait's", and soft plastic texas-rigged worm's. But, it is sooo easy to throw out a "Rapala or Jig/baited to a Leech or Minnow", than to try to "learn" 5 different techniques of fishing the first time you go.
I guarantee, if you use these Jig's baited correctly, & Rapala's, you WILL catch something good! Would it be nice to catch the BIGGEST fish of your family-vaca?
For further Info, try looking at my "Starred Question's". There is ton's of info about fishing in there! Also, try going to www.infisherman.com
Hope you do well? Make sure to come back to answer's and tell us how many fish you caught! Good Luck!

well since your going on a family vacation i'm assuming your going fishing with your kids as well. you really don't need lures. I would recommend using floating bobbers and minnows as bait.
