...(emotion driven), or a state of action (works oriented), or does it require all three?

Please use your own words to define "faith", or give an example of what it is to you.

Kind and respectful answers only please.

Faith is the catalyst for religious belief; it is both the vehicle for religious belief, and the destination to be reached. Religions differ in many details as to what they offer believers, but all can deliver a life illuminated, and comforted by, faith.

It is difficult to not weave many scriptures that come to mind in this answer. I could answer in a very lengthy response, but in respect to the request,I will simplify by saying that Faith,by it's most base definition would be: Unsupported by sight yet unswearving conviction that is neither driven by the intellect or emotions but rather by the Spirit of God,in union with the spirit of man by Grace. This is a very base defintion and does not describe what true faith really is or the means by which it is evidenced.

I could go on in great detail, but will stop here, for now.

Very good question...we need more like this..

Faith is the ability to believe the things the mind can't conceive. Therefore, it is a state of mind because you must first have the intellect to know things do exist beyond the naked eye. It is also a state of the heart because you must have a strong since of emotion to believe. Lastly, it is a state of action because you have to act on what you believe.

Faith requires all 3....intellect, emotion, actions.

Great question.

I'm still working out the definition of faith, so this question makes me happy.

Faith, to me, means trusting something that has not been entirely proven. I have faith that human kind is inherently good, but naturally, there are people who constantly disprove that. But again, I have faith that humanity will rise above people like that.

By that definition of faith, I'd say it is intellectually driven, emotionally charged, and supported by the actions of myself and others. So, all three.

Hope that makes sense. I've been drinking (only a wee bit).

Faith is me sitting here answering questions when I have no idea where my family will get their next meal. We just had dinner and we have food for breakfast in the morning. We'll see what happens tomorrow, but I'll make a bet with you. I bet my family will eat tomorrow, and the next day, and the day after that. My wife and I spent all the money we had to go to Hawaii to visit my dad. We didn't even have money to buy our return tickets when we left our four kids in the care of a sitter and flew away. Somehow we got our tickets and we're back in Mexico. We still have no money but somehow we are still managing to eat.

Those who don't understand Faith will probably read this and think "man this guy is stupid". Whatever. In truth, I'm not worried. Food will come, money will come. That is one example of Faith.

With love,
Shane K.

Faith is a belief that is evidenced by how one lives. For examle, the bible says 'the demons' believe in God, but they do not worship him, so it is only an intellectual understanding that God exists. The bible also says 'faith without works is dead'... true faith or belief in something will result in action. If I believe honesty is the right thing, I will be honest whether it is easy or not.

See, everyone thinks im crazy for only having "faith in myself. I think people are crazy for having "faith" in religion and such. faith is for me a state of the mind which leads to a state of the heart which further more leads to an state of action.

It certainly has components from all three areas, but I believe it is a state of the heart. The Bible tells us that God will know us by what's in our hearts. When I pray, I pray from my heart. God touches our hearts and from there it goes to our minds and then results in good works which are heart-driven but mind-formulated.

Faith is following the teachings of Jesus and the Bible even when you don't understand.
Ex. Sometimes it 'makes sense' to tell a lie. But the Bible says do not lie. So one tells the truth even if it makes better sense not to.
Or 'do not commit adultery'. Some people believe their lives would be much better if they had a different lover than their spouse, but the Bible says not to, so they trust God and obey Him. That's faith---committing one's life to following the teachings of our Lord.

Most people confuse faith with hope or trust.

It is neither.

According to Heb 11:1 it is evidenced by your life choices based on your belief system. Here's the verse in Hebrews:
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." (KJV)

Hebrews 11 goes on to site numerous examples of faith. If you were to read them you'd have a firm grasp of what constitutes faith.
