my mom's giving me $100 a month for food, makeup, shampoo, conditioner, clothes, and everyhitng i need. and like the movies and stuff. i'm only 14! its not like i should be payingfor myself! where i live, you can't get a job until you're 16 and i don't get allowance or christmas or birthday money or anything. we're not poor, either. my stepdad's got like a million dollars in his savings account. plus my mom spends like 3 thousand dollars a month on her stuff. and it really is IMPOSSIBLE with only $100, so do you think she's being unreasonable? how much should i get?

Yes, she is being unreasonable.
A hundred dollars barely covers you on foods.
the amount she should pay is:
food: 110
clothes: 60
make up and stuff: 50
fun: 60
ALTEAST : $280
a week...:]

Demand your mom for more and make her know why you need with this information. That aut to convince her.

First off getting a $100 a month is like an allowance but buying your own food now that's just mean. For clothing and everything else $100 is totally reasonable. but sense you have to buy your own food I'd say at lest $200. But I know what its like. I never got allowance but i didn't get stuff for Christmas and birthday money but sense i was 12 I've had to buy everything except food for myself and I'm glad my mom made me do it cuz now that I'm moved out i know how to spend my money wisely. Just learn now that your moms not always going to be there for you and money doesn't grow on trees. You need to learn how to save some and spend some. If you want a new pair of pants but don't have the money for it well lets see you could go to the movies or you can save that money for pants. Save it.. Learn it young you will be better off when your older.

You shouldnt be complaining. She could just decide not to give you anything. And at the age of 14, I dont think you understand where all the money your parents make go. So your stepdad has a million in his savings... theres things that come up, and he's worked hard for that. 100 is more then enough

She is allowing you to buy the grooming aids and the shampoo that YOU want. She is also teaching you to look for bargains and get the most for your money. she is also trying to teach you to be smart and save some for what you need later when the money is gone--a reserve so to speak. Going shopping at your ageis an education--learn the value of a dollar. What the grown ups have means nothing--giving you anymore would mean you might go nuts and buy all kinds of silly stuff,,needlessly. You're lucky to have a smart mom. good luck

Um, $100 a month IS an allowance. And yeah, you're only 14... what all do you really need to buy. You sound spoiled to me. Try being greatful for what you do have instead of whining and pitching a fit like a spoiled little two year old brat. Sorry if I'm harsh honey, but you're rediculous.

I'm sorry, but I'm not trying to be mean, but it seems like yoru family is pretty wealthy. So you know the meaning of b eing spoiled? I'm not calling you a spoiled brat, but 100 dollars is ALOOOOOOT. I spend less than 2 dollars a week pro bably.. and over the summer much less. Alot of the things you don't need, and since your mom feeds you and stuff, I'm pretty sure she gives you clothing food and shampoo right? If she doesn't supply you with stuff then you probably need more.

I think you should kiss your Mom's feet and say thank you.

This is America. This country was founded on people who could take $100 and double it, or triple it or more. If you are not happy with the amount find a way to make more. Before I was old enough to get a retail job I babysat all the time. I did other odd jobs. There is a lot you can do to earn extra money. Dog walking, house cleaning, tutor. Ask friends and neighbors if you can do anything to help them for a fee. Mow lawns, get a paper route.

$100/month is what the government expects that kind of purchases to cost for one individual, no matter the age or species...

My household consists of me, my husband and my dog. I've budgeted about $300/month, so believe me when I say that with a little forethought and planning, it can be done.

Get creative, and think of cheaper ways to do what you want...

Food, makeup, shampoo, and conditioner can be found at the local dollar store. Try finding clothes at a second-hand thrift store, or the clearance rack at your usual stores. Try going to the cheap theater once in a while.

There is also the option of taking small odd jobs for extra $$- baby sitting, washing cars, mowing lawns, walking the neighborhood dogs, etc.

Trust me, it CAN be done.

I agree, though, it is a little harsh- you're only 14. If you really want, call child protective services, see what they think, but don't get vindictive.

You get way more then my girls get for the same time period. Look, that $100 per month IS your allowance. If you want to stretch it, you're going to have to learn to shop wisely and make your money count. I'd start pricing what you want at different stores to find out where the best deals are. Then put some money aside to save for larger purchases like clothes.

It does no good to compare your allowance to what your mom or your step dad have. That's their money. They earned it or saved it. You need to learn to work with YOUR money.

I don't think she is being unreasonable ---You should be thankful for what you have and be happy with it--you are only a child and I am not trying to be rude but it is her money so she doesn't have to do anything she doesn't want with it

Right now our family doesn't have much money and my dad works full time --we dont' get allowance at all and we have to thankful for what we have but if you really think she is being unreasonable then talk to her about it don't wine and through a fit that will just make her more unreasonable

Let's see, do I believe a 14 year old when she says that her mother is withholding food? Nope. If your parents are withholding food, then you should call the authorities.
Do I believe that a spoiled teen has suddenly been hit with limits as to how much of her parent's money she can waste on clothes and make-up, oh yes.
My only question is why oh why did your parents wait so long to begin teaching you to be responsible?
