Update: Well it depends on where you are coming from. If you are coming from the Hamptons or Riverhead or somewhere like that then yes it is worth it, in fact spring the extra $6 for ambassador class, but if you are picking it up from closer to the city it is not as great of a time saver or ride. They have several drop off points in Manhattan and are in areas where you can get a cab but of course cabs at rush hour won't be as fast as the train or be as available.

Yes, it's extremely popular. Many people without cars use it to get out to the Hamptons. The one thing about it is that it does hit all the traffic that all the cars hit, so going off rush hour is a good idea.
