For a brief time I quit taking antidepressants and awakened, but what matters is I stopped my spiritual seeking and then it happened....
It wasn't because I wasn't taking pills. It was the stopping of searches on all levels.

You cannot make an awakening happen. You must get out of the way by surrendering to what is.
I don't know what you expect but the awakening keeps unfolding.
There is a sudden and complete awakening that comes and goes.
Then.... you retrace back to A from Z, having skipped all the letters in between.
Awakening is free, but then you must do all the work for enlightenment.

It won't cure depression, at least not immediately.

As I'm sure you know, all of your STUFF comes flying out and you will experience all feelings & thoughts as they are released.

It is extremely helpful to understand the process is a natural unfolding.
Enlightenment isn't who you are though. I consider finding out who you are as more important.

Will they create enlightenment? No
Will they hinder it? No
Assuming you are on proper dosages, the AD should help lift the darkness so you can work on issues that were muddled by the depression. The tranquilizers should do nothing more then relax you a bit. If a person reacts in a more extreme way, then most likely the dosage is too high.

I would say no. Enlightment is a state of awareness, clarity, and understanding. I don't believe you can artificially induce those qualities. Drugs can calm you and settle your thoughts but awareness is an active thought process. Understanding requires your brain to be able to operate fully and to process reality with the highest possible effeciency and effectiveness. By taking drugs to limit your brain's activity, you strip away essential layers of functionality that I believe are necessary to actually reach enlightenment.

Having said that, I DO think the calming effect might help on lower level meditation to eliminate distractions, but Enlightenment is a very HIGH level of meditative thought.

certainly on antidepressants, in fact they potentiate the ability to look at one's inner self, where enlightenment can be found. tranquilizers on the other hand, fog the brain and prevent enlightenment.

Most certainly. It allows your head the space it needs to see things differently, and through this you often have moments of enlightenment.
