Controller.com has thousands of light aircraft for sale, including ones in NZ and Australia. It is not impossible to have an aircraft transfered from the US, and the selection and type would be much better.
It is not important to buy a newer aircraft, as long as its in good shape. Aircraft last a long time, most can reach 15,000 hours, an you probably wont put 2000hrs on it.
I just dont envy you, having to fly that aircaft in a user fee based environment with such limited support. You can actually count on you hands the number of Australians who received instrument ratings last year.

There is a magazine called flight international, i don't know if you've heard of it but they sell aircraft in the back, it would be my starting place as it is a fairly specialised magazine, i'm sure it is circulated in Australia as well, here is the website confusingly called flight global ( i assure you its the same thing):

Cessna has a really sharp new light sport aircraft coming out. In fact they are at Oshkosh now.

I don't know about "Down Under", but here on top nearly every airport around has at least one aircraft for sale. Ask around, someone at your local airport probably knows of one for sale.

Look in the newspaper for sale section, go to the nearest general aviation dealer or airport and ask around. You might also consider placing a "Wanted to Buy" ad around town, in diners that are frequented by pilots and/or in the paper. Good luck!
