if your pc came with a recovery partion, and or a recovery disk.
this will set your pc back to its factory condition. but save all the data that you what to save . then do the factory restore.
right you have done your restore now you have to get all the windows up dates , and install all your programs that you use
once you have done all this, you have all the updates and all your programs that you want install .
now you should use a program like norton ghost or acoinis
to make an image disk of your c drive ,
bye doing this next time that you need to sort out your pc just put the image disk in and it will restore your pc back to the staate of your pc when you done the image
, it will have all the updates and programs put on to your machine this cutting out the need to go and getting all your updates again also it will put back all the programs that you had when you took your image ,

I'd back up all of your data on to CDs or other portable media, then completely reinstall your system. Some may disagree, but once you've been infected with a virus or spyware, there is no guarantee you'll be able to get rid of all traces of it. Just do some quick googl'ing on "rootkits", and you'll see what I'm talking about.
You can try Spybot Search & Destroy (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/), Microsoft's AntiSpyware (I think it's called Windows Defender now), or Ad-Aware (www.lavasoft.com). But, there has been research done to show that these tools don't catch all spyware.
System Restore is safe, but may not get rid of the spyware, depending on the change it made to your system, and when the changes were made.
Good luck!

ok well system restore will not do any good only because the spyware is just going to pop up again.you dont use system restore to remove spyware/ad aware.i suggest using spybot search and destroy, with ad aware too.
spybot download location
http://www.filehippo.com/download_spybot_search_destroy/
after youve downloaded and installed spybot follow the on-screen instructions and complete the installation.then open spybot and click on the update button.this will display any updates that spybot has available,(also its better to immunize and run a system scan right after youve updated spybot so you get most of the junk out your pc.)then go to the main screen of spybot and click on the immunuze button.if you are running internet explorer, apybot will automatically block cookies that are being sent to you from bad URL's.(does NOT work for any other browser other than internet explorer).
next download and install ad aware from lavasoft.
http://www.filehippo.com/download_ad-aware/
then install the program.then start it up,now NOTE:that when you start up ad aware for the first time you will see a little box that says license key, subscription length.ignore that.just click cancel.when ad aware is all ready to go click on web update on the side and update anything that is outdated.,thereafter click on scan on the side of the main menu, click on full scan on the right side, then click scan on the bottom of the menu.now NOTE:it is best to run anti-spyware scans when you have very little applications starting, this will make the scan faster because your computer is concentrating on getting the spyware out.now NOTE:as far as anti-virus i DO NOT recommend AVG free edition.this is because AVG is literally CRAP.it doesnt pick up major viruses.many people say of how great AVG is because it does not pick up viruses..thats the thing...IT DOESNT PICK UP VIRUSES,when you are scanning AVG goes right through the viruses like theyre not even there.and if anyone wants to argue about AVG being great please feel free to do so at DBsantos77@yahoo.com
i will love rubbing the statistics in your face.the program that i DO recommend is aol anti-virus shield which you can download here
http://www.download.com/AOL-Active-Virus-Shield/3000-2239_4-10568703.html
aol anti-virus shield has more than 96% chance of picking up major and minor viruses, than what most people say AVG.AVG only has about 84% which is ridicoulously low.and not even the other anti-virus avast! can match up to aol anti-virus shield with avast!having a 82% detection rate.basically aol anti-virus shield picks up CRAP that other CRAP anti-virus CRAP programs dont pick up.now with all this info you should be well protected.now if you have any problems at all feel free to e-mail me a DBsantos77@yahoo.com

First, download HiJackThis. It's a program that scans your computer and locates all irregularities. It's primarily used on computer help sites because experts can easily locate all your problems. (Very recommended).
I use Ad-Aware SE Personal (completely free) as a basic clean-up. Download Firefox (free), it's a great browser and it has plenty of anti-viral software attached to it. CW sweeper detects and removes Trojans (also free).
Webroot Spysweeper is a pretty good anti-spyware, but you can only download a trial version for free. I would definitely remove all illegal downloading programs from your computer (Limewire usually doesn't act up, but remove it anyway>> uninstall and then check your add/remove program option under control panel).
Finally, visit a computer help site. Usually, they are free (although they appreciate donations!). I would recommend Lavasoft (http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/lofiversion/index.php/) and CastleCops (http://www.castlecops.com/).
If worse comes to worse and nothing seems to be working, a system restore would be most effective. Still, once everything is wiped clean, I'd definitely download some type of protective software.

There are 3 free antispyware programs which I highly recommend, including: Lavasoft's Ad-Aware, Spybot's Search & Destroy and Microsoft's Windows Defender. You can find all 3 at: http://www.filehippo.com/software/antispyware/
Other worthy mentions are: Spyware Terminator and AVG Antispyware.
The first thing you should do is uninstall Limewire; you can always install it back later. It is always alarming to hear when software starts by itself.
Unlike antivirus programs, you can install more than 1 antispyware program. In fact, it is highly recommended you install more than 1. I use all 3 without any problems. What one program misses the another catches and vice-a-versa. Just be sure to scan with only one at a time.
Install the antispyware programs and then update them. Here are some articles on how to use them.
1. Ad Aware (http://www.download.com/How-to-use-Ad-Aware/1200-2023_4-5157520.html?tag=morehowto)
2. Spybot (http://www.download.com/1200-2023_4-5157526.html)

Free Spyware/Adware/Malware remover: http://safer-networking.org/
Free antivirus: http://lavasoft.com/
Run the scans, and uninstall some programs, or get a larger HDD, because now a days, you need 80 GB of Hard Drive Space to get through in life.

doing a system restore will not get rid of spyware nor viruses it will just mask them.
First decide what you need to keep installed on your computer and delete the rest, then download AVG/Spybot?ad Aware and throw ccleaner in for good measure up date them after installing them then then run these
