I totally agree with you. I feel that we get the blame for alot here in society. I totally agree with the God-given right for everyone to believe whatever they choose to, but for Christianity to get this much blame for the problems in this country is rediculous. We all live here and should share in the responsibility for our society.
I, personally feel like the things we fight and complain about are so pathetic and show how spoiled we are as a country.
Upset over 'One Nation under God' in the pledge as if any of us were there to write it. I'm sure those who live in countries where you are shot or otherwise killed for a religion that differs from the government wouldn't care so much what the pledge says as long as they have the freedom to dissagree.
For 'In God we trust' on the money. It bothers so many, but I don't know of anyone who would refuse a bill it's printed on if you handed it to them. There are other countries where the majority of people have no money and love in poverty.
Upset with the president being proud of being a christian, but couldn't get anyone else elected last term. His presidency will soon be over anyway, so elect someone you want next time. Would they be happy if we were a communist country and George W. got to be in power for centuries?
Upset because we want our children to have the same freedom of religion (to pray when they want to) that adults do and not have to wait until they're adults to enjoy that freedom. So, now we're teaching and modeling the religious intolerance to our children? Do we want them to grow up and posess the kind of small-mindedness and injustice toward other people's beliefs that we complain about?
We don't know how good we have it. We fight over this stuff like spoiled children who can't just get along and be grateful for the blessings we do have!
When it comes down to it, just like n_007pen posted with the bible verse. The world is supposed to hate us. They're supposed to persecute us. If they don't then we as christians have to look at our life and see what we're doing wrong! Take heart, though, it won't last forever. It'll be over soon, and we know how the book ends, fellow christians!!!

Are you kidding? The party owned by the religious right has controlled the federal government for the last 7 years and got a couple of Supreme Court justices appointed, thereby ensuring their legacy well into the 21st century. I hardly call that oppressed.
Perhaps what you see as "sidestepping" of the rights of Christians is really an angry backlash against the religious right. Maybe a lot of people are frustrated that we're at war, getting gouged by gas prices, and can't afford homes or health insurance, and have a difficult, delicate problem with illegal immigration -- and our lawmakers have busied themselves with the really pressing issues of amending the U.S. Constitution to say that "marriage" means a man and a woman, restricting information that could protect kids from the transmission of sexually transmitted diseases, and having midnight sessions to issue "emergency" legislation to stop the husband of a brain dead woman from removing artificial life support. Let's not even get started on physicians ought to be classified as felons for assisting a patient who is making the very personal decision as to whether she should terminate a pregnancy.
Given these shenanigans, no wonder people are backlashing, and frankly, it often makes me embarrassed to tell people I'm a Christian. I think Jesus would be seriously bummed about the absence of compassion that some of his flock show on a daily basis.
This is the easiest country in the world to be a Christian. The First Amendment protects your rights, and your religion is in the majority here. Give thanks to the Lord for this tremendous blessing, and quit whining.

A lot of it has to do with Christians themselves, and how they react to different religions. I'm agnostic, I don't believe anything, but I don't not believe anything-- I'm completely open and unsure of ideas.
I've gone to church with a friend when I stayed the night on a Saturday night, and I've heard the preacher say a few things that were a little hurtful and belittling of nonbelievers.
Then there is the whole thing about "God" in the pledge of allegiance, and on the dollar bill, or the ten commandments in a government building, etc.
You have to admit, that's not very fair! There just shouldn't be anything there, and everyone allowed to believe whatever they want! This world would be so much easier.
Another thing is... in my town we have people of various religions, including Pagan-- which is NOT evil at all. A pagan woman opened a store that sold candles, incense, y'know... that kind of stuff. And, the community had an absolute fit. They actually made her close the store because she was Pagan and selling books about the Goddess.
Just things like this... I believe this is why people are beginning to feel ill toward Christians. Christians, maybe not you, but in general, have had their fair share of dealing out some trouble too! Past, and presently alike.

Sure they have been the scape goats for the reason the present administration is in office. In truth the last few elections have not produced any candidates that Americans were completely comfortable with. Many people vote for the lesser of two bad candidates, rather than who is a good candidate.

Because Christian dominance should not trump the rights and sensibilities of others. The Christian belief that their version owns salvation is pretty damn irritating as well.
I am all for removing tax fee status from all churches.

Oh, absolutely; no question about it. Offhand I can think of several reasons.
1. In a world where the line between right and wrong is being deliberately blurred, we Christians stand up for righteousness.
2. People who live in denial of God are uneasy if they see a danger that someone may turn over their rock.
3. It's fashionable to be bad, like the "gangsta" image that kids try to project. . . So the same impulse drives them to bad-mouth anyone they perceive to represent "Good", like us Christians.
4. They know we're an easy target because we don't usually kick their asses for attacking us.
Please don't worry about it; we're in good hands. Jesus warned us we'd take a lot of sass for His sake. He also told us not to be turned from our path by a bunch of foolish talk.
Blessings to you!

Human society changes like the tides... Cultures come, cultures go, views change and adapt, nothing stays the same...and is especially difficult in a "melting pot" society.

Maybe you should explain what rights you feel are being "sidestepped" as a Christian.

of corse muslim children, hindu children, atheist children all want to have to say christian prayer in school
all muslims atheists and everyone other than christains wants 'in god we trust' on their money its saying i don't believe in allah but god and the same kinda thing for atheists
we all want 'one nation under god' in the pledge of allegence
of corse even though your beliefs don't affect gay people they should have to abide by your rules
atheists shouldn't be allowed to join the boy scouts of america
of course i shouldn't be able to hold office in a lot of states for what i believe in,
your not exactly opressed are you?
the constition even says 'freedom from religion' yet the government is forcing your religion down the throat of the entire nation and you complain when the get a few extra rights
