I think I have depression but I'm a little confused. It goes in waves...long waves. I don't think it's bi-polar because when I don't have depression symptoms I'm not really happy either, I don't have mania. But when I have symptoms it's either I'm really sad and don't want to live anymore or I just am so irritable and angry that I can't stand when something goes wrong, and I can't stand anyone. Are waves normal in depression and is the anger? I can't stand when I'm having an anger episode because I tend to hurt my family, I'd rather be suicidal. These episodes, both suicidal and anger last several months, I am rarely happy. Is this depression or something else?

Girl, please see your Dr. now and tell him to set you up with a therapist and a psychiatrist who can administer medication to you. I was exactly in you boat at your age. I didn't know what was wrong with me and this was 20 plus years ago so no one really knew. I went through a rough time and don't even remember things about my kids when they were that age. I am so proud of you for asking this question! Once your Dr. gets some blood work they can see what kind of meds you need. I still am on medication and will be probably for he rest of my life, but you know what. I sure am glad their is something I can take. Please take this time for yourself and get healthy!! Life can be so wonderful. I know !!

It is normal to be depressed occasionally. If you are depressed for long periods of time you should see a therapist. Ask your doctor to recommend one.

Anger is something different. If you are stressed for a long period of time you may feel angry.

Both of these are treatable through therapy. Doctors tend to prescribe drugs to treat the symptoms. Try the therapy first before the drugs. Drugs do not cure depression or anxiety.

You need to retrain your thinking patterns and that is where a good therapist can help you.

You may be someone that was never taught how to cope with life. I strongly suggest you contact a counselor and discuss how you can acquire some tools to help you cope so you won't have these ups and downs.

Life is not easy and the better we know how to deal with it, the less of a roller-coaster we will experience.

Also make sure you are eating healthy, many people eat horribly and that can cause depression and other symptoms.

Depression is normal for everyone but by what you say it sounds like yours is more extreme then it should be, you should talk to your parents and get them to take to to the doctor, he may be able to help with the mood swings to bring them to a less sever swing.

Suicide is not the answer, get that out of your head, it solves nothing, it only makes more problems for those left behind. It can destroy entire families when someone does that.

I know, my grandparents committed suicide and I know what it did to the family left behind.

Please get some help!

I feel like I've just read my story online...

Yes, it's probably some sort of chronic depression- or it could be a personality disorder of some form. However, I doubt it is the latter.
