I wish I knew what the answer is. Irresponsible people are the problem. I can't understand why cats shouldn't be regulated like dogs. Just the things like kept on the owner's property or confined from straying. Licensing so you can get a better idea of who is irresponsible in lettign their cats run everywhere or dumping them. I know that it doesn't totally cure the dog problem, but I don't see a quarter of the feral dogs that I do cats.
Keep trying. Ask around on sites like craigslist to find cat rescues. Look on petfinder to see if ther are any that can help you. Thanks for doing so much for these cats. You might feel dumped on here, but whe you cross the Rainbow Bridge, you'll have lots of loving cats to welcome you.

Talk to your vet. They will not be able to do it for free but they will help you get it done as cheap as possible. My vet worked with me when my cat had kittens (I spayed/neutered all 5 kittens and the mom at the same time) and it was only $25 for the boy and $30 for each girl. See what options they might have in your area. I hope you can make it work. Sorry it has to be so frustrating but you are doing a good thing. Good luck!

Some vets will even allow 'free to good home' notices since theres a catch..free to good home BUT pay for the neuter! Otherwise the people who often search for the free pets (often, not always) are the same people who dump animals or do not neuter due to cost then dump more unwanted kittens!
You didnt ask or cause this problem, however its now become your problem if resorces are limited. Plus its a sad fact the amount of 'resued' animals end up destroyed.
Possable worth even approaching local pet shops?
While trying to resolve this definatly try and keep them confined as much as possable, dont want 5 kittens becomming 25!
*I had 2 kittens come home with me after being unwanted and about to be killed (yes, bag thrown in water was almost their fate!) Amazing its people who claim to be animal lovers who are committing such aweful acts :-(

I'm so sorry you are going through this. Thank you for taking on somebody else's problem. Call back the humane society and see if they can put you on a waiting list or refer you. You might have to drive a bit though.
I work for a humane society and kitten season is an aggravating time for all of us - we are overwhelmed too. I wish more people would spay and neuter their pets and not be jerks.

I'm soo sorry you have to go through this. Thanks so much for caring!
First, it may seem bad now, but you're not alone! There are animal rescues all around you who can help you. Take a look at Petfinder.com to find some rescues and shelters in your area. If at all possible, offer to be a foster parent for the kittens until they are old enough for adoption, which would be around 8 weeks old. As a foster parent helping the animal rescue, the charity will pay for the kitten food, for their shots and for their spay/ neuter surgeries. You just have to continue to provide the love until they are adopted!
If you need to go this route alone, contact the SpayUSA.org group (http://www.spayusa.org/) to find a low cost spay/ neuter clinic near you. This will take care of a large portion of the cost. You can also find KMR recipes online if you still need to make milk for the babies.
Then, if you need to find homes for them, please be careful to whom you adopt/ give the kittens! There are some crazy people who will want them for pet food for a snake, or just to hurt them. Avoid Free to Good Home ads, and ask for a small donation to be given to a charity if you need to ask for money for them. By asking for money, you'll weed out most of the crazy people, and be left with only those who want to love a kitten.
Hope this helps!

First, good for you for being a good samaritan and taking care of the kittens. You may want to try some local vets and see if they can help you out. They sometimes offer low cost spay & neuter clinics on certain days or weekends.

I just went thru this myself only I found them under my moms shed and I kept getting the same answers about how it is kitty season and everyone is too overwhelmed!! but that does nothing to help THESE kittens why not try to start a donation for them to help them get shots and "fixed" I would love to help with what I can (unfort I am not very blessed finacialy lol) I know how frustrating this is but thank you for caring enough to save them and I would really try to collect money to help wth them and call the local shelters they are always much cheaper to work with

I found a momma cat and five kittens living in my backyard, i've been feeding them but since they are ferrel have no idea what to do when they get bigger. I have four dog's, i can't afford to feed six more cats. You are a wonderful person for wanting to spay and neuter them all.

Put an add in the paper saying free kittens. The people that take them will be responsible for fixing them. Also, you can post it on the free cycle (under Yahoo Groups) offering the kittens. People will be more than happy to take these kittens off your hands!!

put an ad in the newspaper to find them good homes. Make sure that the new owners are going to spay or neuter their new pet. Most papers are free for their ad, some or only $10.00 for a week.
