I recently purchased a case of Nestle water and noticed that it contains sodium. I always thought bottled water was free of sodium. I've been checking out labels of other bottled waters since and they all contain zero sodium.

the other bottled water u r checking out is probably spring water. They contain no sodium.
The nestle water is not spring water. It is just filtered bottled water with added minerals. They probably add a bit of sodium to help with taste. Also did u know during hott months if you are sweating alot you loose alot of sodium. A little sodium in your water while u r sweating is good for u as long as u dont suppose to be on a low sodium diet for health reasons.

You add a dechlorinator to ANY water that you put in the tank. It's a simple chemical that reacts with any stray chlorine in the water, and forms sodium chloride, which is plain salt, and harmless in small amounts. That should be the only chemical you need to add to an established aquarium, ever. I'm not sure what the monthly ingredient you are using actually is, but I suspect it's main purpose is to extract money from your wallet, not do anything useful for the tank system? Ian

Sodium water (or soda water) used to be considered a tonic back in the days when drug stores had soda fountains. It was thought that the minerals were therapeutic. They then started adding flavorings (some tasty, some nasty), which is where things like Pepsi, Coca Cola, and Moxie cola came from.

Pepsi originally had pepsin in it, which was known to calm down an irritable stomach. Coca Cola originally had cocaine in it. And, Moxie had gentian root, which also was supposed to sooth the stomach.

These days, they mostly just pressurize the soft drinks with carbon dioxide to make them fizz, along with some soda for flavoring. But, some natural mineral waters do contain trace elements, including sodium.

Sodium is a mineral that can be found in some water naturally. It could be found in their source of water. Or, they may have added it because a little sodium is good for our bodies because we are mostly water and a little salt, too.

Sodium chloride must be added to maintain balance . If we drink too much distilled water (no salt ) then we risk having low blood sodium because the blood is diluted .
Low blood sodium is called (hyponatremia) and it is why (water intoxication) is deadly . (heard of the water drinking contest for the WII where a mother died after drinking too much water ? )
