My daughter is 8 and is apparently starting puberty young, which I believe is the norm nowadays. So far the signs are breast buds and pimples. She had a really big pimple a couple of weeks ago, which went away on its own, but now she has at least 4 little ones. I have had the discussion about her period and all of that, but I am concerned about her face. I don't have problematic skin, so I want to make sure I do what I'm supposed to do to protect her skin.

There are some bigger answers to this question, but since your daughter is pretty young, let's try the practical attack first. Acne is caused by dirt, bacteria and oil. If you can take care of the three, there won't be any pimples. So at least once a day she needs to wash her face with warm water (open up pores), scrub with a non-oil cleanser and rinse with cool water.

If things get worse, Proactiv is the best thing on the market (in my experience) for clearing up kids' faces. It has several steps, though, and your 8 yo may not have the patience for it.

Less expensively, my son's face clears way up when he swims every day. Pool chemicals? Sun? Don't know, but it works.

If you're not satisfied with this answer, keep my e-mail address around and ring me if you need one more choice. It's cheap, harmless, and my son's face is soft as a baby's butt when it's done. It's a little strange, though, so I hate posting it on www.

You should probably get some skin cleansers that she can use. I use the Biore Pore Unclogging Scrub and sometimes the Dove Gentle Exfoliating Foaming Facial Scrub. They work really good. My favorite is the Biore. It leaves sort of a minty-fresh feeling on my face after I use it. All I do with them is rinse my face with as hot water as I can handle, to open my pores. Then I rub the lotion all over my face, especially where I have blemishes. Then I just rinse it off with cold water, to close the pores again. I actually started seeing results pretty quickly. You just have to make sure that if she starts using the scrubs, she has to do it every day, or else it won't work. I put the links to the products I mentioned so you can check them out and make sure you approve. And if you dont' start seeing results within about a month, then I would consider a dermatologist.

God luck! I hope I could help!

I would recommend using over the counter cleansers and things. Be sure she is washing her face properly too. Some kids have achne which can be very upsetting especially in high school where kids are very mean. Teach her the proper care for zits and pimples ie keeping the skin clean, popping the zits quickly, and making sure the skin doesnt get infected. If the problem becomes worse then consult your family doctor who may recommend a dermitologist as needed. Good luck and hang on the early puberty years are a wild ride!!

My best advice is, having older nieces and nephews, i understand, but you may need to take her to a derm to see if there is something for younger people to put on skin for pimples, but also Clean and Clear has this stuff called their Advanced skin care line that helps with acne or you can get St. Ives apricot scrub. I have always used that and it does wonders for my skin, its soft and the scrub part of it cleans my pores, i use it in the shower every morning and before i go to bed and it works really well, and its mild so it may not damage her skin being so young. Oh yeah and DONT LET HER PICK! Her fingers being on her skin will just infect other open pores with the germs on her hands and cause other pimples, and will cause scarring. Also, have her wash her face more often with a luke warm wash rag with just water or anti bacterial soap or Johnsons baby shampoo.....it helps, trust me!

Try getting her some gentle face wash that specializes in acne. Everyone makes one now adays. Clearasil has a good one, I forget what its called. Get one that is non drying. I would start with that and if no luck try a couple of different ones and if still no luck go to a dermatologist.

I would try over the counter stuff at first, and if the problem worsens or doesn't get better, see the derm. Preventing it now will prevent scarring.

you should just buy like neutrogena or any face cleansers like that to just clean her face up for now....try it for like about two weeks depending on the product that you buy...and if it doesnt help...get a dermatologist

you dont need a dermatologist...you just need to find a good face soap, and make sure she washes her face daily.
