First of all, *hugs*
Second, don't worry - most lumps in premenopausal women are not cancer. I had a benign lump in my right breast, and it took an afternoon of mammograms, an ultrasound and a biopsy to get to that conclusion, although upon feeling it both my doctor and the surgeon performing the biopsy said it felt benign.
Do not delay - I discovered my lump while showering. I was getting ready for work - but once I found the lump, that took a backseat. I got dressed and went right to my doctor to get it checked out. You want piece of mind, and only a doctor can give that to you.
Your lump can mean a number of things - all benign, such as a cyst (breast or follicular - the latter meaning some pus is localizing around an infection in your underarm hair follicles, with the pain deferring to your left breast), excess breast tissue (like a third breast - my sister had this under her arm, and had it removed), or what I have, a breast fibroid.
The sooner you get looked at, the better - no matter what it is. Yes, you can get breast cancer at 23 (and the lump can also be painful, but rarely are painful lumps indicative of cancer), but I'm guessing your lump is something else entirely. Please let us know the outcome; in the meantime, try to relax and think positive :o)

Yes a 23 year old can have breast cancer.
Definitely have it looked at. Cancer is generally not a painful lump. But one never knows and your peace of mind is better served having it looked at.

Yes a 23 year old woman can get breast cancer. The only way to figure out what it is is to get it checked at the docs office. Don't wait make and appointment as soon as the clinics are open.

Yes you can get breast cancer at virtually any age after puberty, however VERY rare. It could be cyst of some type especially if you just had a child. Nevertheless I would go get it checked out if its causing you pain.
And I'm sorry to intrude on your question.....
BUT TO THE RN THAT ANSWERED THIS TOO...
If Cancer is not a painful lump then why was my grandmother in such excrusiating pain before she died?

Of course, even in some rare cases men can have breast cancer. You should get a doctors appointment, even if it goes away, it might be an infection, or an inflammed lymph node. But better safe than sorrow, remember most things if treated early have better outcomes-
Hope its something minor.
