I am 5 feet 10 and weigh around 175. I'm in alright shape but want to get into better shape. I also want to be a better runner and my best time for a 3.8 mile course was 34:30. Thanks for the input i appreciate it

Actually your time for 3.8 miles is not bad at all. I measure by kilometers (Canadian) and I do 6km in about 24:00 (which is about 3.8 miles - a bit less actually). And I have been running for a very long time. To become a better runner just keep at it . I started at age 12 and never stopped, just keep at it.

To get faster, vary you distance. If you want to get better at your distance, run longer to make the short runs seem easier. And then do very short runs to get the feeling of pushing the speed. There are many other running tips, run with better runners, join running groups, run hills to increase leg strength, do other cardio work, strength train on days you don't run, but most importantly be consistent and never stop.
