it'll be two months today that my Mom past away from Ovarian Cancer and the one thing that I have a hard time doing is listening to certain music. Mostly anything that she liked, and of course, music that we played for her while she was in paliative care. I can handle talking about her death, sharing memories of her with family and friends, but I just can't do music.

is there anything for you that you avoid because it's too painful?

first of all i would like to say sorry. i know what your going through. i lost my sister 7 years ago. she was my sister, my mom, my best friend and she died from breast cancer. one of the thing that helped me was to write a letter to your mom. tell her how you feel. then take the letter outside and burn it. it was something my pastor told me to do, at first i thot he was crazy lol but it really helps. and little by little play a song but instead of thinking how much it hurts. think about the memories that your mom and you shared during that song. enjoy that memory. and if u need to cry then go for it!!! that is one of the best things you can do.

I avoid my dad's house all together. After my sisters and I sold the house at the request of our brother and his attorney, I haven't even been down the street that I grew up on. It's too painful for me to think that I cuold have prevented losing something that he worked so hard for. I also can't listen to bagpipe music. It was his favorite, and I love it as well, but I can't brign myself to listen to it. It gets a little easier over time, but you will always have things that remind you of your mother whether they are painful memories or happy ones. Just try and focus on the things that make you remember the times and eventually you will be able to cope with the music. Take it one step at a time. I'm sorry for your loss hun.

I suggest you don't avoid it. I feel like in avoiding it, you are not dealing with what is making you feel that emotional. You need to go through the grief process in order to heal emotionally.

For years it was very hard for me to visit my grandfathers grave. Over time it got better and I can now visit without falling apart. It takes time. And Time is your friend. It can't happen overnight.

I am so sorry for your loss.... God be with you.
