Nobody invented antibiotics. Ian Fleming, a British scientist noted that some bacterial cultures he was preparing had been shaken so that they were exposed to ambient air, and that the cultures were dying. Upon further investigation, he found a mold called Penicillin was responsible for the die-off. From this, penicillin was found to be effective against many bacteria. With this ground-breaking opening, other molds were also found to have anti-bacterial effect. His finding and the mass production of pencillin came just before World War II and was a major cause of the tremendous improvement in infection prevention of wounded people.

It was ALEXANDER Fleming, not IAN Fleming. IAN Fleming was a novelist who wrote the James Bond books, and Chitty-Chitty-Bang-Bang.

No one yet... unless you mean 'antibiotics'! Always been there (penicillin), just needed someone to figure out their use!
