I found the most BEAUTIFUL dress but it does not come in a color that is anywhere close to the color that I want for my wedding. I'm sad.

Because it depends on what season you're shopping in, what's "in", and where you are shopping. You have to look at lots of designers, in lots of places. I'm going to take a shot in the dark and say you're looking at David's Bridal? I hated that place. NOTHING in fall colors, the majority was springy/summery pinks, oranges, and blue/purples. I went to a little family owned boutique and my bridesmaids found a dress they LOVED in the color I wanted for a great price. I was so stressed out trying to do David's Bridal because of the separates, and finally, gave up. I felt so much better when I did, that place is unbearable IMO.

Try going out on ebay and look for the brand. Maybe someone is selling it in the color you want (if it is out of season). Another idea for bridesmaid dresses - do a search for prom dresses. For some reason, there are prom dresses that are almost exactly the same as bridesmaid dresses but come in more varied colors and sizes.

Find a great seamstress that specializes in bridemaid's dresses. Get references. Pick out a fabric in the colour you like and have your bridesmaids purchase about 5 metres (or more if they need it).

Take a picture of the dress you want, to the dressmaker (or a pattern) and have her make the dresses to measure. Because you are purchasing in bulk, the fabric should be wholesale.

Optional: Sometimes your bridesmaids have difficulty paying for their dresses, so if you can afford it, give the bridesmaids 5 metres of fabric as a gift. (If they need more, they pay the difference). It should be about $50/person - $10 / metre.

the designer/manufacturer must have only decided to make it a few colors.
maybe you can contact some local seamstresses and see how much they would charge to make it in the color you want.
or - contact some of the sellers from china that make wedding dresses on ebay. i sent 1 a pic of what i wanted and got a quote that was so cheap i would be hard pressed (it would be near impossible) to find someone state side that could do it at that price. and they go based on the meaurements not standard off rack sizes too

I bet there is a similar dress made by another company that will come in the color that you want. Post a photo of it and let people try and find it for you. I'm sure it's out there.

Be sneaky!!!Take your bridesmaid with you, get her to try it on.
Sneak in your digital camera to the fitting room. Get photos of every bit of it you can then take it to a dressmaker and get her to make it in your favourite colour. A good dressmaker can usually even make her own pattern up from looking at the style.
Good luck!

because manufacturers can not make EVERYTHING in EVERY STYLE IN EVERY COLOR. just like any other production - it is business not your mom making something what you want for dinner eventhough everyone else is having something else
