I have a 2.5 year old indoor, female (fixed) cat. She is an attention whore (to put it lightly). She demands the attention of myself and my boyfriend. She whines incessantly and follows us all over the house. She head-butts us in an effort to get us to pet her, as if petting her 8 hours of the day isn't enough. She keeps us awake all night with her meowing, crawling over our heads, and scratching the closet door open. Kicking her out of the room is no help as she rams into the door repeatedly while crying.
What can I do to stop her need for constant attention?

I really wish I could have two cats but I'm allergic to cats and I have enough trouble breathing around just her. Alas, she is my child and getting rid of her is not an option.
She has plenty of toys... enough to fill two toy boxes! LOL! I don't know what to do with her.

My cat does that too, and it is really annoying. She meows really loudly all night long. Your best bets: get another pet. My new dog keeps her amused for a lot of the time. My friends cat settled down after they got another kitten, although most cats I know wouldn't like another cat because they are territorial. If nothing works or another pet is out of the question, you could put her in a certain room at night. My cat got a room to herself so that she would leave us alone while we slept.

I adopted two kittens about a year ago. I was really on the fence about having two, but they were the last two left and I felt bad leaving one behind so I took both. And now I wouldn't have it any other way. It is so great to have the two of them, they keep each other company during the day when I gone at school or work. They come to me when they want some attention but they spend a lot of time together as well.

The whole "get another cat" only works half the time. The other half, a single cat resents an invader, then resents you for bringing the invader in. So ignore that BS. Quit giving the pest so much attention. If it doesn't learn, get rid of it.

Buy a kitty tower? More interactive toys? If I were you, I'd just get another cat. They pretty much keep themselves occupied. Except when it's time to be fed.... then it's a double whammy on the attention whore-ness.

I have that problem with 2 of my cats, both Siamese, one male the other a female. I was wanting to hear advice on this too, but then I remembered what my mother does when her cats misbehave. She has a squirt bottle with plain water in it. I think I will try that. I will watch this to see what advice you get that maybe I can use too.

I sure hope you get some good answers because my cat is the same way...... my vet told me to get another cat, but I don't want another one. I can't afford it, plus the double stinky litter box.

Kick her out of the cats section, and she'll go over to the R&S Q&A area.
It worked for the Atheists, they get all of the attention that they ever wanted over there.
