I'm sure their bodies were designed a little differently than ours are currently. Not only could they have viable offspring with such close relationship, but they also lived a very long time! Perhaps the first people created had physical bodies that were more perfect, less corrupted, than ours. As time went on, genetic mutations occurred which resulted in shorter lifespans and the inability to produce viable offspring with an immediate family member.

Alternatively, suppose God created additional humans for them to mate with. I know, it's not written in the Bible, but couldn't that at least be a possibility? The truth is, I don't know the real answer, but I'm offering these ideas as possible explanations.

Dear think,

I answered a smilar question just about 4 minutes ago. In Geneis 5:3-5 God says, "And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, and after his image; and called his name Seth:
4 And the days of Adam after he had begotten Seth were eight hundred years: and he begat sons and daughters:
5 And all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years: and he died."

Those children that Adam and Eve had, needed to learn, mature, etc. They would eventually marry brother with sister. At this time in history (11, 013 BC), the genetic defects of todays society were not present. So it was no problem.

Genesis 4:17 says, "Cain lay with his wife, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Enoch." Who was his wife? It is implied in the biblical text that Cain married one of his sisters. Several facts lead us to this conclusion.
First, it is clear that Adam and Eve had a number of children. Genesis 5:4 says, "After Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters." Since Adam and Eve were the first man and woman, and since God had commanded them (and their descendants) to be fruitful and multiply (Genesis 1:28), it seems reasonable to conclude that Cain married one of his many sisters. It is also possible that he married a niece or even a grandniece.
One must keep in mind that in the early years of the human race there were no genetic defects that had yet developed as a result of the fall of man. By the time of Abraham, God had not yet declared this kind of marriage to be contrary to His will (see Genesis 20:12). Laws governing incest apparently did not become enacted until the time of Moses (Lev 18:7-17; 20:11,12,14,17,20,21). Hence, there was no prohibition regarding marrying a sister (or niece or grandniece) in the days of Cain.

The Bible is NOT a history book or a science book. The STORY of Adam and Eve is just that --a story which the author long, long ago created to teach some of the truths of God. Some of these truths are: God loves the people he creates. The people he creates have free choice and they live with the consequences of their choices.

There are books written on the topic of the collection of books which ended up being know as the Bible. Check one out...

In the rules revealed to Prophet Adam, it was allowed for the brother of one birth to marry a sister of another birth. Eve used to give birth to sets of twins each 1 boy and 1 girl. It was not allowed for the actual twins to marry each other but it was allowed for them to marry someone from another birth.

After humanity grew, this rule was abrogated in the revelation to Prophet Sheeth (Adam's son)

They mated with the cavemen who evolved from unicellular organisms through a lot more species, as Darwin pointed out.

marriage between brothers and sisters. we know from archaeology that sibling marriage was very common in ancient cultures. it was widely practiced among the ancient egyptians. When it was banned in the bible- that was actually a radical cultural concept that set the Jews apart from many other cultures.

which is exactly why taking the creation story literally is complete idiocy. personally I think that by saying Adam was the "first man", I think the writers of the bible were saying he was the first jew. but that's not literal enough for a christian, so I'm sure I'll get bashed for this one.

Incest was allowed in those days, because of the perfect DNA in Adam and Eve.

Methinks they "kept it in the family", so to speak. At that point, it hadn't been forbidden, so they were fruitful & multiplied.
