you better go with them to transfer it, my soninlaw had to pay penalties on a truck he sold a year ago, the buyer threw away the bill of sale and paperwork and phonied up some more so he wouldn't have to pay any fees. Now he says he'll never do another private sale in Texas

Sign the back of the title and give a odometer statement go by the county court house with the new owner so they can pay tax and buy new licence plates. Bill of sale with a agreeded amount on it is essential. Yes if you let some one loose with your plates and they run a red light you might get the ticket.

a bill of sell for both the buyer and the motor vehicles department,a release of interest in the vehicle,a declaration that you are the legal owner and that there are no lien holders.
a photo copy of there drivers license and turn a photo copy of all in to motor vehicles department to remove your name from the car, then take the plates off of it,there yours.
