I know you can fry and deep fry green tomatoes, but can you fry or deep fry red ones? I heard tomato seeds have poison in it. So I was wondering.

Tomatoes are indeed members of the nightshade family, but the vegetable is cultivated so that they are not poisonous. I eat them every day and I think the seeds are the best part, and have never suffered any ill effects.

You can fry red ones but they aren't as firm as green ones, they may get floppy. Just be careful.

The only reason they really use the green ones is because they are firmer. Ripe tomatoes actually have more flavor but they can be a lot less firm and may fall apart when cooking if they are too ripe. Chilling the tomatoes after slicing and before battering can help.

Sure!

INGREDIENTS:
4 firm ripe red tomatoes
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon sugar, to taste
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 egg, slightly beaten
1/4 cup milk
bread crumbs
PREPARATION:
Wash the tomatoes and cut them in 1-inch slices. Do not peel. Dust with salt, pepper and sugar. Whisk beaten egg with milk. Dip tomato slices in the egg mixture, then roll the in the crumbs. Place in a frying basket and fry in deep fat hot enough to brown a cube of white bread in 55 seconds (about 370°).
Drain on paper towels.

Better fry the tomato rather raw. As long as I know, better for you guys eating cooked tomato rather raw one. It's good for your prostate. And it is easier for tummy to digest cooked tomato rather raw one. Some kids can not eat raw tomato because some of them allergic to it.

You can fry them just fine, but I prefer mine with just a pinch of salt.
