It depends on the school. Many years ago, when I was in public junior high school (7-9th grades), girls took showers in the locker room near the gym. I hated it and would just run through the water with a towel wrapped around me.

I personally think if schools are going to make students take showers, they should provide private showers. Everyone doesn't like exposing their naked body to strangers. In some cultures/homes, exposing nakedness is not acceptable.

It would be nice if he takes them before, during, and after that time as well.

This is a home school site, so we do not have "gym time", but to answer your question when our son comes back from the gym, and the showers were unavailable, a shower is normally the first thing on the agenda when he gets home.

The showers aren't in the gym, they're next to the lockeroom!

And I was taking them since Middle School.

We don't offer "gym" in our homeschool. Instead, we are involved in sports teams and clubs. I only require showers if the boys come home stinky after practice/games.

My homeschooled ninth graders do not have a gym class. They get their excercise from various "afterschool" sports teams and from general running around. This is the homeschooling section.

I really hope so. Hygiene should be more important than vanity and self consciousness.

Some schools make you, and some let you make that choice on your own and some schools don't let you.
