I am currently 12, but will be 13 next month. I am planning on taking a babysitting course so I can get my babysitting license. I will also be taking a cpr course. I use to be in Girl Scouts for 4 years, so I know the heimlich, and how to take care of children of all ages. My question is, would you hire me, and if not, whart else would I need to be prepared. Thanks!

Heck yes! I would want to see references of past experience with other kids. But good for you for taking the time to learn these important skills. Without a doubt I would hire you.

Yes I would for my 4 year old. It really all depends on how "mature" you are at 13. You have some very impressive qualifications, and sound very serious about babysitting at the age of 13. Keep up the learning and I am sure you will make a great babysitter.
My wife runs an in home daycare, and would love to have a helper like you. Our 12 year old helps her out in the summer time. Maybe you should try and talk to some of the people in your neighborhood that do in home daycare and get some experience that way.
To sum it up, yes I would hire you. You have some great ambition and great qualifications. At your age to know all that and remember that is very impressive.

OK you need to be prepared for the very strict guidelines of some parents. Safety of you and the children you are babysitting I mean as far as break ins and other emergencies of that nature.

That is great that you are eager to start working. I am of course a mother myself and the only advice I can give you is prepare for the unexpected because not every thing goes according to plan while watching children. Also make sure that person whose house that you are observing the children is a clean, and safe environment.

Make sure that your mother or father knows what residence you will be at and also if you don't have a cell phone you should consider asking your parents to get you one. Things happen and you need to also keep your safety as well as someone else's children in consideration.

Good Luck!
Charlie

Yes. Certainly. Of course only if I knew you. I would much rather hire somebody whose on-the-ball at 12 than a idiot at 14. You have some idea of what it important, and you plan ahead. I expect that you would be more able to plan activities to keep the kids entertained. I might only call you for daytime/evening needs, and when I knew certain neighbors were home. For going out at night I would still want to call a 15-year old.

If we knew you somehow, we would probably try to use you some and by the time you were 14 you might become our primary sitter.

At 13, I wouldn't hire you unless I brought my child to your house and your parent was there with you at this point in your life. For a couple of hours during the day (to help you get some experience, etc.) would be fine. You are DEFINATELY doing the right thing by going to the classes and getting certified. Very mature and you get points for that. To get started though, you need to watch some children whose parents know yours. That way you'll have some references and experience under your belt. Good luck and in a year or two, you should be good to go on your own.

You sound pretty responsible at your age for taking CPR courses but I have a 2 year old son and my 13 year old step son doesn't always know why he's crying...so for your age, I think you could handle 4 year olds and up.

I would hire you at 13 but not for my children under 5.

At 13, I'd probably hire you for kids between 6 and 9. but not an infant.

I probably would, I'd have to interview you and see how you'd do with my kids first, but we've always done that before we "hire" a babysitter. We have a wonderful sitter who is 16, my girls love her, she sits for us twice a month, but she is in HS and sooner or later they move on. We had her sister before her, they were/are both wonderful!
Sometimes we pay her a little extra, keeps her wanting to come back. She even cleans up after the kids and herself.

I'd hire you. I used to babysit my cousins when I was your age. There was no such thing as babysitter licensing in those days. You'll probably be well prepared.
