You put the crocheted cover over the cardboard thing, put it on your TABLE, and put a hot pan on it, so the table isn't damaged. These things have been around for longer than you've been around. The cover I have was made by my great grandma, but I can't find the insert part. Geez, I'm not stupid!

Check any of your local craft stores or a hardware store. They may have something that will work. Best of luck and I do know what you are talking about!!! (Flammable-hotplate, what a dork!!!)

Do I understand your question correctly? Are you making covers for a Hotplate?

If you are, be extremely careful. Your should be using non combustable material (not asbestos). If you or some else accidently turns on the hotplate while the cover is in place, it could be dissasterous. There are many fire caused by similar circumstances. Cardboard is quite flamable, and some of the threads are extremely flamable. I would not advise covering any heating element of any kind.

If I understand your question correctly and you are making covers for a Hotplate.

You are litterly playing with fire.

Good Luck!!!!
