I am looking to buy a home. When I got my credit reports from the bank, I noticed an address on there, that I have never lived. I do not even know where that came from! What can I do to have this address removed from my credit report?

Is it being listed as a past address?

Note that whenever you see something strange on your credit report, it could be the early signs of Identity Theft. Examine your credit report extremely close for other errors.

You should be able to get the old address deleted by sending a dispute. If they refuse to delete it, request that they send you a report on how they investigated it. Someone put this on your report, so make them tell you who did it....then contact that creditor and ask for validation.

You do not want strange addresses on your report.

You need to wait 30 days, for a re-score. Are you wanting a mortgage, or credit repair or both. If the collections are old, no difference, if they are new, huge difference. It is the credit card that will change things. Pay down on that card as much as you can. Try to get it to half of your limit. If that is your only trade line, your score won't go up much. Get a couple of secured cards by having money in savings. use 10% of the balance and pay it off before you get a bill every month. Do this for 6 months and your score will be big enough to get credit.

Studly is 100% right...submit a dispute right away. This could be a sign that someone used your SSN to apply for credit in your name (but say had the card sent to another address).

Another possible explination is if you have an ex and you still have some account with both of your names on it. This is what happened to my husband, our mortgage lender wanted to know when we lived in Missouri because that was an address listed on his credit report. It is his exwifes address, they had an auto loan together and she had the bills sent to her address, he was the primary on the loan, so the bank reported that address as his address.

File a dispute with the credit reporting company. Each has its own process. Go to its website to find out what you have to do.

you need to provide proof that information is stated incorrectly
by submitting it inwriting to the reporting agencies showing the correct information.
