Surprisingly, lots of inaccurate information has been posted in response to this question!
Buddhism absolutely predates Christianity. There was no Buddhism before the Buddha (born around 546 B.C and lived for 80 yrs). Modern Christianity starts with Christ born more than 500 yrs later. If you include the Old Testement accounts of man-god encounters as 'Christianity' the picture gets very unclear as we cannot accurately count the years.
They are very different ofcourse. Unlike Christianity Buddhism is not a revealed philosophy but a 'discovered' one .But contrary to one of the postings it has its own authoritative texts agreed upon by the clergy of the 'faith' from back in eth century B.C (orally) and written in the first century A.D. The sutta pitaka the largest of these (several times the size of the Holy Bible) is one of the three sets of such books and contain the teachings of the Buddha. Unlike Christ, the Buddha is a teacher and a thinker. He is not a God or a messneger of God or even a prophet. His only claim to fame is that exclusively through shear human effort and human intellect he discovered a path to 'salvation'.

Christianity is older. They are completely different philosophies. They are both as ancient when it come to the philosophy because they are both just handing down knowledge from ancient teachings. Jesus was just reestablishing the truth that appeared to be lost of Moses and Buddha was handing down the teachings of the Mayavadi Philosophy. He was actually coming for the atheistic class of men, who would never accept God. So God empowered Buddha (shaktyavesha avatar) to spread this knowledge of Buddhism for those who would not surrender to God. It is an atheistic philosophy. But they are actually worshiping the energy or light effulgence of God, known as Brahman or Nirvana. They will only merge their for a very long time and eventually fall back o earth and get anotehr chance to serve God. Krishna says in the Bhagavad Gita (Song of God) "Whenever ethier is a decline in religious principles and the truth appears to be lost, I appear again and again or send my representative to reestablish the truth." The Truth is one. Their are higher truth and Absolute Truths. Lord Jesus was speaking a much higher truth than Lord Buddha. For the most ancient and original teachings of Jesus read Gospel of the Nazirenes. Much has been taken from the bible and misconstrued by King Constantine and his click of scribes. google gospelofthenazirene.com The original New Testament

Modern documented Buddhism is about 550 to 600 years before the time of Jesus. There is no book of Buddhism in the strictest sense as you might think of comparable to a Bible. There is much written but it wasn't condensed into one book.
