Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007 (HR 1940) Has 57 Co-Sponsors. Bug Your Congressman To Sign On
Text of the bill

The fact of the matter is that if the parents are illegal aliens and they sneaked into this country illegally, then they are criminals and should be deported. Just because they happen to have a baby here should not give that baby automatic US citizenship which then allows the parents to claim hardship for legal status and allows them to obtain millions of taxpayer dollars in services for their anchor baby.
The 14th amendment was introduced into the Constitution to allow slaves to become US citizens after the emancipation. Since then it has been misused for decades to allow literally millions of illegal alien anchor babies - and their illegal parents and families - to remain in this country.
So far HR 1940, the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007 introduced in April, 2007 to end the practice of abuse of birthright citizenship, has 57 cosponsors. It was introduced by Representative Nathan Deal of Georgia.
Below are the current co-sponsors of the Birthright Citizenship Act of 2007. The 14th amendment never did guarantee birthright citizenship. Quite the opposite. There has never been a Supreme Court Case that contradicted the intent of the 14th amendment. Yes it has been interpreted to mean that anyone born here is automatically a citizen but by who? by what authority? cite the court case or the author of that statement.
Senator Jacob Howard ,author of the citizenship cluase of the 14th amendment stated in 1868:
"T]he Constitution as now amended, forever withholds the right of citizenship in the case of accidental birth of a child belonging to foreign parents within the limits of the country."
We do not need to change a law that never existed. We do not need to reinterpret what was meant when the intention was made crystal clear. What we need to do is stop perverting twisting and bending the 14th amendment to say something it has never said.

Its not going to happen any time soon seeing the Supreme Court has hinted that birthright citizenship is clearly a constitutional right and the odds of the 14th Amendment being amended are slim to none.
Amending the 14th Amendment would require 36 state legislatures to OK a Constitutional amendment passed by a super majority of the House of Representatives and the Senate. This is not going to work because the Democrats control a majority of the state legislatures and both houses of Congress. The Democrats are almost universally against amending the 14th Amendment and a majority of Republicans will not touch the issue with a 1000 foot pole.

The easiest way to end it in many respects would be to do a constitutional amendment. Any other effort would wind up in court for years waiting for a final Supreme Court decision, assuming they would take the case. In all probability it would be suspended during all that time. The amendment route would also take years, and prove very difficult but would be unchallengeable if properly written. The real question is whether there is sufficient public support for this. Personally, I doubt it.

Having a baby now in the US does not give the parents the right to stay in the US or work in the US. The child will have the right, as they are born here, they will be able to work and live in the US, and when they are an adult they can sponsor their parents to move to the states. This however was not the case a few years ago.

Actually I heard they have it in some bill on the floors of both the Senate, and Congress. To either end this misinterpretation of the 14Th amendment. Or to clarify it clearly once and for all again to mean only American and Naturalized citizens babies are the only beneficiaries of being, and having Automatic citizenship to this country.
Keep writing your Senators, and Congress members. This is OUR Country.

According to some information I just received, yes....They are currently trying to make it to where American-born children of illegal immigrant parents will have their citizenship revoked until they are 18 years of age, thus prohibiting the parents from applying to stay here with their American citizen child until they are 18 and can petition for their parents to become citizens.
