In my opinion the most important issue facing the world today is deforestation. What is so disturbing is that despite all we know about global warming, we continue to encroach, deforest huge areas of land, forests and mountains where the natural habitat is being disturbed, dis-balanced and destroyed. What is even more disturbing is the homes built on those lands all have the modern commodities such as dishwashers and washer dryers which leach phosphates in the neighbouring lakes causing green blue algae. We should force our government to leave some areas of the north alone, stop giving permits to huge developers to deforest entire mountains.

Management of natural resources is by default the most important issue in the world today. Everything else follows. With properly -- or even marginally -- managed resources we can sustain even more people than today. But food supplies, health, even our very future is threatened by our own actions and neglect.
Certain species of wildlife are considered "environmental indictators." When these species decline or vanish, they act as the proverbial "canary in the coal mine" and tell us we better hurry up and get out of the mine. Since we can't do that, we need to rely on delineating a more sustainable lifestyle and learning to appreciate the resources that act as "Nature's services." We must treat the planet and its resources with the respect it deserves.

Our world leaders are the most important issue at the moment. Just look at the most important religious leader in the world at the moment....The Pope was a Nazi in his youth (sad but true). The U.S. Presidents' grandfather was a Nazi supporter (Prescott Bush).
Most of the rest rule by religious oppression or military might.
We are headed into a dark age of humanity, and most of us are so worried about watering the garden that we can't see that the forest is burning down.

the most important issue in the world is the next one that you face.. I seriously believe that. If we know something that can promote a positive change, then that is the most important issue in the world. if we face an issue that we don't know that much about then for us at that point learning is the most important issue.
so, in the same line of thinking ignorance is the most important issue in the world.
and i really didn't mean to be that profound..

Population growth, the environment is the victim, and population growth is the problem. The environment isn't doing so good with 6.6 billion people right now, imagine with 9 billion or more.

Global warming. If we don't reduce our greenhouse gas emissions soon, it will cause catastrophic climate change which will negatively impact every person on the planet.
