I've gone to several weddings at Villa Borghese in Wappinger's Falls, NY. (Dutchess County) OMG. It's by far the BEST place I've gone to! The cocktail hour is AMAZING. It's a beautiful place, the food is fantastic, but it's not cheap. It's about $100 a person. But, you totally get what you pay for. The rooms are large and separate from one another. They often have three events going on at once, but you'd never know unless you wander into a different room. There's a private suite for the bridal party during the cocktail hour - so a grand entrance can be made. =)

The Inn at Central Valley in Central Valley, NY (southern Orange County - 15 minutes from Mahwah, NJ) is supposed to be great as well. I have personally never been to an event there, but my boss has and loved it. They have a couple of venues in the area as well. (They took over the Bear Mountain Inn too.)

East Wind Caterers in Wading River is beautiful. I had my wedding at the estate (larger room, but private) but there is a smaller building - the country gardens with a beautiful footbridge. Ceremonies can be held there too. Everything is kept separate so I didn't see guests who were not part of my wedding. It was still very private. Food was awesome and the place is actually much more reasonable then they appear they should be. Definitely check them out. I was happy.

Here's the website.

The east end wineries can do one wedding at a time so they may be kind of private too.

I had my wedding reception at 24 Prince - a comfort food restaurant in Nolita. It was not formal, but they could accomodate 65 people comfortably, on my budget and everyone loved it. The service was stellar and they have a great backyard - maybe you could do the ceremony there?

Round Hill House is really nice! Gorgeous gardens surround an old mansion. It's located in Orange County NY (about 60 miles north of NYC).

We had a wedding with 90 guests here about 3+ years ago. They normally have 2 events at a time.

This place was booked for the date I wanted.
