I have a Yaris and I love it. It gets GREAT gas milage - about 45mpg. It is comfortable, handles well and is easy to drive. It does especially well around corners - I can drive the wrong way up a parking lot aisle and swing around into a space without making a 3 point turn. I can also make a u turn on a tight 2 lane road. The seat is comfortable, even on long trips. It has enough power, I can excellerate quickly getting on the freeway and can maintain my speed (even at 80mph) going up hill on the freeway. I used to commute 100 miles a day and drove 85 mph and my car did great. We take really good care of it - getting the oil changed and tires rotated and checking all the fluids so that may help, too.

Its a Toyota, so you know it is made well. I've already put 39,000 miles on mine and it hasn't had any problems.

I also like the little things - it has lots of storage compartments including a spot in the doors for a water bottle. The cup holders are unique and I love them. It has an aux. jack for the stereo - so I can plug in my ipod without a car kit. The trunk is also huge for a car that small. Someone else emtnioned the guages in the middle as a con - but I really like them, I think its unique and modern, and I like being able to easily tell how fast my husband is driving :)

I got the 4 door sedan "S" model, with the power package (power windows, etc. and cruise control) and it only cost $17,000.

The cons are that it only has one cigarette lighter/power adapter - I would have liked 2 or 3. And if you are tall and have passengers in the back seat they will be cramped. I'm short and have toddlers, so its not a problem for me, but it might be for some people. I also would have liked an armrest for the driver, but you usually don't find those in sedans that small.

I would say if you like the Yaris get one - but get the "S" model, it handles better.

yes, i love the yaris. i have a yaris hatchback. i've had NO problems so far. it really does depend where you're planning on driving your car....in the city? lots of stop lights or traffic? or on the highway? the highest mileage i've ever had is 42mpg only because i filled it up before i hit the interstate. the horsepower isn't what i dreamed of, but for the city it's perfect. i def. suggest getting a manual. this car is VERY ready for aftermarket modifications...just go on ebay! there are so many items to boost horsepower. just look into japanese websites marketing these cars. they're amazing...i definitely suggest getting one. do your research! i did! you won't regret it...you'll know more about the car than the guy that sells it to you! i did! well good luck! check out edmunds.com, kbb.com...just look it up on google! look up some pictures on them...i can't believe the modifications people do!

The Yaris is fine. It has a lot of very good competitors, so you'd be smart to check them out. Specifically, the Scion xB or xD, the Honda Fit, and the Nissan Versa. They all have different looks and somewhat different features, and they are all small, fuel efficient and cheap. Have fun shopping!

First of all:
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/10/toyota_quality.html The Yaris was called a "disappointment" by ConsumerReports, and has received the same from every other tester. Here is SmartMoneys test of econocars:

Here is Car and Drivers comparison:

The best hatchback currently on the market is the Honda Fit, but if you can wait 1-2 months get the Saturn Astra. It is just a rebadged Opel Astra, one of the most popular cars in Europe. It will be built in Belgium until an American plant is converted. The Astra is the best hatchback in the world, inside and out.

Here is a comparison between the base Astra and Yaris. (sorry, but you have to add the Yaris you want, I cant get the link to work)
http://www.vehix.com/research/comparisonTool.aspx?condition=1&year=2008&make=16000000000033&model=Astra&radius=75&zip=80130
The Astra may cost a few thousand more, but it comes with almost every feature standard, wheras with the Yaris you have to add everything, even the am/fm radio, power locks, power windows, and floor mats, that is if it is even optional. Hands down the Astra is a better car.
