My boyfriend and I will have been together for four years as of July 31st (ish . . . we don't know the exact date, so we celebrate the whole week because my birthday falls in that week as well).
We've got a kind of crappy anniversary/birthday situation in that we are moving both days. Out of the old place on the 31st, into the new place on the 1st. We'll be stay in a hotel the night in between, I imagine.
So . . . I need ideas! This is the man I will eventually marry (that whole engagement thing is taking a long time, but eh, it'll happen; he's a slow poke some times!). This is the longest relationship I've ever been in. And I've never been happier.
How can I express my love? What's the best thing you've ever gotten for an anniversary?
I don't care if it costs money or not. Just ideas would be good!

Jack: Actually, we just bought a matching couch and loveseat. But the thing is: we both wanted reclining theater style seats with electric controls . . . and that's exactly what we got. In black.
So, in a way, he got that already. And he doesn't need the massager; he gets that almost every day as it is! :D
But excellent idea!

Okay, this might sound completely stupid, but it's true, and it happens to be the best anniversary present I ever got. Ready?
Write (and get your husband-to-be to write) an unauthorized biography of each other's lives. Write it all as if you were writing about someone who's already dead and long gone. Tell the world everything, leave nothing out. Good, bad, all of it. Take your time - then seal it in a journal. Crack it open at a specified anniversary date in the future and share.
You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll remember - but most of all, you'll leave a legacy of each other, that is, what you expected and thought of each other at the time. If you're completely honest, I guarantee you'll be blown away.
PS: can you imagine reading such personal stuff about your mother and father?

What my husband did was take me to the Museum of Science and Industry because that is my favorite (and his as well) and we saw all the exhibits i liked and we held hands and took the tours and watched the movies on Imax and saw the Body World Exhibit.(if it ever comes to your town go see it very interesting!!) (he actually purposed at the Museum!) Then we went to Al Capone's Hideaway & Steakhouse for dinner. Afterwards we watch zombie movies...see thats us...we have to end on that kinda note. It's what makes you happy and what is romantic for you. If you need ideas you can email me some things you are into and I can try and help. My husband is awesome at this stuff, or you can write more on what you two are in to and I can get a better idea and email you. Congrats on the four years together!!!!!

Consider putting the celebration off for a week or two so you both will be well rested. You can split a bottle of wine on your special day, but the big celebration can be put in abeyance for a short bit.
1. Buy yourselves a private plane tour over your city or local area. If there are mountains, look at them from above. If you can see your neighborhood, take photos from the air. If you can afford it, you can even fly somewhere special for dinner.
2. Get tickets for a play, concert, or special event you both will enjoy. Plan a dinner where the waitstaff know you're coming, and ask for some special treats, such as flowers brought to you both, a special bottle of wine, and/or a violinist to serenade you. If you want you can give him a CD of a musical, then when he opens it, there are also included tickets to go to see it.
3. Have a bouquet of balloons delivered to his office.
4. If he likes surprises, have a limo pick him up at work and bring him to a special location.
5. Rent a canoe and go paddling on a secluded lake, or go camping for a few nights.
(Congratulations. My boyfriend and I were together 11.5 years before he died of cancer, 6 weeks before Vermont's civil union law went into effect.)

What's the best thing I've ever gotten for an anniversary?
Forgiveness.
But for your situation, I think if you got him a massaging recliner, he'd really appreciate it, and use it. Men love comfort, and those things are wonderful. Have it delivered with a big bow on it to the new residence.

Establish a fetish with renting a hotel room. It is a great way to convince your boy to take you on vacations or just to get away for a night.
PS: Hot monkey sex is a really good re-enforcer for establishing a pattern in your man. Keep it intermittent though to keep him guessing (*wink* I will prolly be crucified for suggesting holding it back though).

My most memorable anniversary gift was condoms, and I really can't reccomend that.
As for sweet gifts, I would try to do something like tickets to a concert you know he'll like, even if it isn't that weekend. Or making him a dinner in your new home. Or getting him a nice PS3/Wii as a housewarming gift. (Well, ok, that's on my wish list. But hey, it's a decent idea if he's at all a gamer!)

Well as all my Ex's have sucked... nothing
But the ideal?
We go to a Fondue Restaurant (so much fun) for dinner. Walk it off on the way back to (for you) the hotel. Arrive and you have laid out some adult games and activities to further a) express your love for each other and b) burn off more of dinner and desert.
If you go for fondue... make sure you save room for desert. Amazing!! Also, leave alot of time for dinner. Had gone with a group of girlfriends the first time and we only allotted 2 hours... it was a 3.5 hour meal for four of us. So much fun though.
Make sure to tell us how it goes!

What's the best thing you've ever gotten for an anniversary?
A divorce. *grins*
Oh, but that's just me and I wasn't happy in that relationship so getting a divorce was good. :)
I know you are looking for ideas, lets see. I'd do something romantic or kinky depending on your taste. You say you are staying in a hotel room eh? Get a bottle of champagne, red roses (most people like flowers like that) dress up in lingerie , etc... Oh and hand cuffs. ;)

First put it off a week. Why would you want to celibate in the midst of chaos?
Second, you know him. Don't think guys are complicated. We aren't. You probably already know the answer, but think its silly.
