Well it is one of the most terrific sports one could enjoy.
You will need a fishing rod, a reel, a stringer, some fishing line, perhaps a bobber, bait, hooks, weights, fishing license (you could get a day pass in most states) and a lake stocked with fish.

The steps are easy 1) put reel on rod 2) feed the fishing line through the guides and onto the reel crank the reel until you get about 50 feet or so onto it 3) tie hook onto end of fishing line 4) add some weights and a bobber 5) cast out into the water and wait for a tug on the line and then give a sharp pull to set the hook and reel that fish in.

The real way to start to love fishing is to buy a fishing magazine. So you can get real interested.A really good one is Saltwater Sportsman. Then you would want to go on a charted boat by a guide. You may be able to find charters in the back of the magazines. Do Not go on a party boat, it is just a bad experience waiting to happen. Get a really good guide that can put you on the fish. Once you get the big one you will be hooked. Now you may want to go to Local fishing tackle shops and talk to them about tackle and fishing. then you will probably want to start to look into buying a boat. Dont go for the big one. Start off small and when you truly have a passion for fishing you can being to travel around the world to fish and buying bigger boats

I have taught myself how to fish for steelhead, salmon, flyfishing, and bass fishing. I fished an average of 2 years before I caught a fish. Also I have met several men who have tried to take fishing by buying very expensive equipment and just go out there but later quit cause they did not catch anything. I can tell you that fishing is a SKILL. 20% of the fisherman catch 80% of the fish is the truth. Catching a fish is sometimes just luck but it is knowledge and skill that will eventually win.

If you have no clue on how to fish, my advice is to hire a guide to teach you how to fish. He will show you the right equipment, tackle, where to fish, how to fish, etc. You will start catching fish and it will be more enjoyable. You have to actually have to catch fish to really understand it. Trust me I have done it both ways and the other way is a long hard road in which you will invest a lot of time and money.

Well, in my case, I had'nt gone fishing since I was about 15 (30 now). A few weeks ago I was watching a fishing show on ESPN and it reminded me of my childhood. I decided to get back into it right then. I got on the internet and searched fishing as much as possible (for info on rods, reels, bait, etc.) I then went to my local Bass Pro Shop and Sportsman's Warehouse to talk to the guys there. They gave me loads of info as well as fisherman that were there shopping. The first couple times fishing I went to one of the local pay lakes, because it was stocked with catfish and if I caught anything I wanted it to be a fish I could recognize, one I like to eat as well! It was very enjoyable and now I've gone like a million times just this month! Fishing is one of the greatest sports (and leisure activities) around. If I could I would do it every day. I recommend going to a local bait and tackle store or Bass Pro and play with the various rods and reels to see what you like, get some info from the guys there, and GO FISHIN'!

Go to the river or lake or stream early in the morning, and talk to some of the people fishing, especially the older gentlemen they seem to love to share their experience, their stories, their time, and even their bait and tackle or if you are shy go to

Usually those who start fishing at a young age continue their love affair with fishing until death. To start in midstream and develop the same gung-ho feel about fishing is not easy. You could try however and see what happens.
