what the difference between calamari, squid, cuttlefish, and octopus?

Squid and calamari are the same thing, essentially. That's like asking the difference between a cow and steak. Calamari is cooked squid "tentacles"--normally fried, and very good.
Octopus is a different animal, but it's in the same family: mollusk. The difference between a squid and an octopus is the difference between a donkey and a horse. They can look similar, but they are fundamentally different, and one is bigger.
A cuttlefish is also in the same family as a squid, but it's a lot like a snail.
Hope that helps!
