Hi

Can anyone suggest anything for someone who wears hearing aids for helicopters, I've only flown twice - fine by airplane but never been on a helicopter, are they fast and can they make you dizzy

Thanks
Andrew

You'll have no problem in a helicopter. Top speed of commercial helicopters is 150 kts and they are never pressurised.

Take your hearing aids out, we wear cep's, don't ask me what that stands for, but its just a little ear bud that's wired into a helmet that make for a lot better hearing of the radios. They cost about a hundred bucks. Or you could just buy a set of headphones. If you're just flying as a passenger, just wear earplugs, although your pilot should give you a set of headphones. Some helicopters have soundproofing installed, which make the noise a little more bearable. They are loud, depending on what type of helo you're flying you most likely won't ever get over 150 k, but they can be nauseous for some people, so be prepared and bring a barf bag. Have fun.

Hi Andrew. They're a lot more noisy than a plane and they vibrate much more due to the blades, but they're a lot more 'fun' than a plane.
"Dizzy"? It's the blades that rotate, not the 'chopper', so you'll have no problem there!!

Buy some ear defenders, you can get them in B&Q for about £7.00. They are not fast and are a smooth ride if the rotors are balanced and smoothed properly. They are good fun.

Stay out the helicopter then. Go see a doctor, ears nose and throat doctor.

I wouldn't worry too much kids go up on them, and they love it me, I would not have the nerve I am a first class coward.
