I crashed my car and took out the $4000 motor and swapped in original blown motor. I'm pretty sure the insurance company wouldn't give me $4000 or even half that for my motor. I also took off the $600 hood and $1700 wheels. We were told by the agent that they might not cover the aftermarket stuff, so we replaced everything we could that was aftermarket.

We are not claiming that any of this [aftermarket]stuff is on here or needs to be covered. Receipts will only be presented for whats still on the truck.

I had add on stuff on my truck when I was hit by a "hit and run" driver. The insurance company would not cover any of the add on's that got damaged since I did not pay extra premiums for them. Since you only removed after market things, I would not consider it fraud because you are not asking them to replace the items.

I would say not. I do know however, if you can prove it with reciepts, that stuff you put in like the motor and the hood, etc. It increases the overall value of the car. So what ever the kelly blue book says plus some with the aftermarket stuff. Now I couldn't tell how much more. When my Z28 was totaled by a drunk driver my insurance paid a lot more than the car was worth because I was able to prove the new engine, headers , etc that I added in. Now in my situation nothing much was salvagable except the radio which ( I asked my insurance rep and he said it was ok) I took out of the car befour being sent to the junkyard. Now I will tell you I didn't get back all the money that I paid out for the aftermarket stuff but some was better than none. This was a few years ago though I don't know if things have changed. But I do believe you have the right to take stuff off you car that the insurance company won't cover.

Gee your agent is a genius.

1st, if you claim the blown motor as being damaged then YES it's fraud. As for the rest.....why didn't your agent add the aftermarket things onto your policy? Your policy may cover some of the items at a fraction of the cost so instead of swapping stuff out and off, just be honest and let the insurance know what's involved and THEY'LL tell you what's covered and what's not.

yes this is insurance fraud, adjusters are taught to look for this kind of stuff, If you have receipts for the motor hood and wheels then take the chance and see if they will cover it. And since you were told by your agent that they might not cover this stuff, your agent know what you had on the vehicle correct. so if you switched everything he would be an accessory if he did not advise upon payment of claim.

Only if you claimed all the stuff you took off as still on the vehicle.
