Apparently in "the olden days" people didn't wash their hair often and the scalp went through a process of becoming really greasy, then self-cleaning, so the scalp was fine.
Just wondering if you would try it or have or continue to not wash your hair.

I actually met a girl who hadn't washed her hair for two years - it looked fine apart from one night when she'd gone out and then got fluff in it. personally I wouldn't try it.

This might depend on what type of hair you have, but personally I wouldn't try it. In this day and age people might be a little put off by unwashed hair. I know people in ancient times thought bathing was actually bad, and wouldn't do it often, so they just used perfumed oils on themselves...also something I wouldn't try all on it's own! People who get dreadlocks can't wash their hair while they are in the process of getting them, and I'm not even sure if you can with them...But as for just plain not washing it I think the oils might become a problem and may even effect the skin on your face if your hair is long and brushes against it often.

You can get away with not washing it if you're persistent It does go through a nasty greasy/ pongy phase before it settles down tho. One of my family did it for a couple of years for eco/ vegan reasons, but I can't say that the results were particularly brilliant - they had very fine long hair - not sure it was best suited to not being washed. I think we were secretly quite relieved when it started to get washed again to be honest! Don't think I could do it - couldn't go through the 'stuck to my head' greasy stage...

I heard, on television, of a lady who had not washed her hair for two years - she said it was greasy at first but after about 10 weeks, as you say, her scalp was fine and her long hair looked great.
A friend of mine was on the streets for 5 years (before I met him). He only washed his hair once in this time and said it was ok, but as he didn't brush it either, it was long and wild.
When he got somewhere to live he had to have it all cut off.

LOL.. in case you knew what share cases i wanted that shoelace concept became potential!! approximately as many cases as I contemplated Jr. Benedryl till now I placed it lower back on the keep cabinets and walked away!!! ROFL touching directly to your daughter, it seems such as you could have a handful on your palms as she gets older. so a techniques as perfect now, it is what she has desperate to combat approximately. What i'd advise is very disgusting and that i'm undecided in case you will choose for to try this yet.. provide up battling her. enable her pass around with greasy hair. Then, the subsequent time you're online (together with her at the back of you), seem up 'hair spiders'. The city legend stuff would desire to arise. examine that and make comments to your husband approximately how disgusting the stuff is. (spiders that nest in hair that became not washed, and so on.) Your daughter would desire to pass particularly without delay to the bathing room to bathe her hair upon interpreting the stuff. ;)

My Great Grandmother was born in victorian times an you are correct .What they used to do was add peerfumed oils to the scalp and brush it thru. When she died she had black hair at 83.However when washed as was the tradition there was a lot of grey there. Its not dirty or unhygenic your scalp oils cleanse the head

I haven't tried it, but I have heard that given time it regulates itself.
The comment about head lice above is from someone uninformed, head lice are just as likely to go into washed hair.
I tend to wash my hair once in about 4 days on average, it does get messy after that, so I don't leave it to see it will sort itself out in months.

About 10 years ago they did an experiment on TV.
A lady with nice, thick naturally wavy-curly hair volunteered not to wash her hair to prove the idea.
She found it very difficult to start with - her head itched and felt dirty, she tried just rinsing it under water & using no shampoo but that actually made it feel worse.
After 2-3 weeks (don't recall exactly) she went back to the studio - her hair looked wonderful and (apparently) felt amazing - very soft as all the natural balance had been re-achieved.
Not sure I could do it myself though!!

Really good question that you asked. The only way of testing this is to do it yourself, and see whwther your hair condition improves. I have always washed my hair with shampoo/conditioner but i think that they strip the hair of its natural oils.
My hair is greasy right now and i dont think i could cope leaving it another day.
I wonder what women did all those years ago, before shampoo and conditoner was invented. I think the hair is able to clean itself, but i dont now how good it would look.

Me and a woman that i used to work with, challenged each other on how long we could leave it without washing our hair, I lasted a whole week and it was so greasy and itchy i was glad to wash it. It turned out she washed her hair on the same day as me, so it was a draw. We never set the challenge again. So no i would not leave my hair that long. There was a women who was on The Big Breakfast Show (many years ago) she hadn't washed her hair for ages and her hair didn't look greasy, so your statement is correct!!
