No one is going to follow a pansy god. I mean imagine if the commandments were more like:
"Please love the Lord your God. If you don't he'll feel sad and lonely."

Well we had just begun to speak and be human when men invented bosses. See some men were lazy and did not want a real job ( we will call them priests) and some men had the means to support themselves but it was hard work. So something happened in the community and the smart man ( priest) saw a way out of doing work and physical labor. So he had to make a scary god that did this bad thing and then he told these idiots that he had a direct line with this god and that this god demanded them to grovel and bring food to the priest and not only food but the first fruits of their labors because these were the best of the bunch. Of course if you did not bring the best the god would know and doing something bad to you.
And from their on out idiots have been teaching idiots to fear the impossible, improbable invisible man of the sky or else he might throw a hurricane at you or a lighting bolt. I bet right now people reading this are looking for the lighting bolt to strike me downnn..................
just kidding no bolts of lighting ha! ha! ha!
The religious are so gullible

All the people that get pissy over this question will be the same people that deny, deny, deny that it some way shape or form some of the points that The Davinci Code book brought up might possibly be in the ballpark. That's scary to think that it's historically documented that Christianity was invented and merged with paganism during the Council of Nicea. The Davinci Code IS fiction. Duh. No one got murdered in the Louvre. But the author did his research, and some of that was not made up. Look into it. DO research. Don't just assume it's all crap.

Well first of of God has nothing to do with the evil in the world. You know I always ask the same question. And somebody sent me this.
Where is God? If He is God and in charge of this Universe, why does He allow the world to continue on its course of destruction? Why doesn't he put an end to all the cruel and bizarre things happening in our society? (Kay Arthur)" Habakkuk the prophet questioned God and wondered where he was when bad things happened. There are some who would believe that God who is a God of love, mercy, and compassion, does not have a thing to do with the evil that exists in the world. And they wonder what does that say about His power, authority and involvement in the affairs of men.
In the Book of Habakkuk 1:2-3, 13
Habakkuk the prophet asks the same thing:
How long oh Lord will I call for help, and thou wilt not hear? I cry out to thee, "violence!" Yet thou does not save. Why dost thou make me see iniquity, and cause me to look on wickedness?...Why dost thou look with favor on those who deal treacherously? Why art thou silent when the wicked swallow up those more righteous than they?
When Habakkuk asks these questions to God... God answers not only to Habakkuk but to those who doubt His existence and His power and authority.
If you often ask these questions and want an understanding read the book of Habakkuk which is only three chapters long. The book is a conversation between the prophet and his God. Note when God is talking and when Habakkuk is. Highlight all his questions and the answers God gives. Maybe your faith will grow and you will understand better why bad things happen in the world and God is nowhere to answer your call.

See, here's the thing. We're all really a part of God, it's just that we had this little idea that maybe we weren't, and it grew to the point where we no longer remembered that we are.
And we (collectively) felt guilty about this perceived separation from God, and thought we ought to be punished for it, even though it never happened. So we changed our perception of God to a punisher.
Simple, if you look at it that way. All our perceived (not real) divisions come from those guilt feelings over something that never actually could happen.
Does that help?

Well, the Buddha just walked, sat, ate and talked about dharma so I guess that's OK.......but I don't believe in the Buddha as a god so maybe I don't count. I look at the world around me and I see so much pain and suffering that I almost feel we are mimicking a vengeful god without even thinking about it. Some do but many don't. Makes me wonder.........((((((GANDALPH)))))

Would you want to join a religion where they taught you that god was just this passive dude who didn't really care what religion you followed (if any) just as long as you were happy?
Probably not..... and those religions lose power & money so what did they do? They made got wrathful and vengeful..... follow me or burn... please me or suffer the consequences.
Ruling by fear is one of the most effective ways to get people to follow along.

god is a loving God and humans did not invent him.He made us ad the world we live on.Yes he killed alot of people but they were sinning and because they did not change their ways and follow God they were already dead in their spirit and because they were full of sin they would eventually end up killing each other off just because they did not get their own way.God decide to end it quickly and to start over. The day is coming when their will be no more sin and those who do not follow Jesus to the best can and with Christ helping us our best is really great if we allow Jesus

All of the blood and guts unpleasantness in the Old Testament is merely a reflection of what that particular society was going through at that point in its history.
