"old fluff and feathers", had little to do with Manifest destiny, he was a soldiers soldier, he was in charge of the US army when the Civil war started, and quickly went int oseni retirement, as an advisor for President Lincoln. He wa a minor American hero ofthe Mexican wars of the 1846-48, he organized and commander smaller forces, that after about 6 months, defeated the larger Mexican army. He followed orders, he did not set policy or determine theUS right to Manifest Destiny, don't blame the soldier for dong the politicians dirty work. Manifest Desity was a shamefu lway of driving out the Indians, taking lands from Spain and France, and publically stating that we as Americans have aright to Kill, take and use any lands in North America that we choose. Hey where not the only ones who have done that, every Empire has done that, they just called it Expansionism, or Imperialism or sorts. like Great Britian, spain, France, Germany, Russia, Japan, maany SOuth American Countries etc. We just jput it on paer differnly and made it some how a quasi religious statement, kind of like the Muslims do. General Winfield Scott wa a soldier, he did his job, he did it well, and he was much liked by his troops and his nation, and that is very rare in any nations history.
