I hope you don't mind me asking, but .. if you don't know where he is living, then how did you plan on finding his residential number?

In far the most apartment buildings, the "residential numbers" are per building, not per person. So, you'll need his address in order to track his residential number coz it is extremely unlike it is registered in his name. Alternatively, you'd have to know his employer.

For mobile phones, most numbers are pre-paid and the names of the users are not registered anywhere.

Since he's a foreigner, he'd need a valid work permit to get a residential phone as well as to get a post-paid mobile phone.

Sorry.

There are lots of Thailand teachers Forums on line with chat rooms and bulletin boards. Most of these are for helping teachers find work but you should be able to ask around the teaching community. someone is bound to know your friend.
Also check on line Bangkok bulletin boards. good luck with this. If he is in BK you should be able to run him down!
