I picked up this yellowy-brown shiny rock in the driveway and Mum says that it is probably radioactive sludge. (The driveway is in New Mexico) How can I tell if this is in fact radioactive sludge, and if it is should I get rid of it?

If it is radioactive it will fog photographic film. Place an unopened cassette of new film next to it overnight and then have the film developed. If the film is completely dark, there was no radioactivity near it. You can even use the film to take regular pictures before you develop it. If there was any radioactivity, your pictures will look like there was a light leak in the camera. If the pictures look normal, there was no radioactivity.

How much feeling have you lost in your hand? If its not a lot then the rock is probably just toxic.
