They are feral cats and nothing will make them tame, but patience and careful treatment will make them more amenable to accepting you and the boyfriend as friends, not enemies. NO MILK, but do give them kitten food, not adult cat food. Don't reach for them, let them come to you. If they come close enough to stroke them, just stroke gently and stop if they flinch or move away. Don't pat at first, as they take pats as blows and will shy away.

Treat them as little wild animals, which they are, and be very gentle and calm with them. A loud noise, sudden movement, holding them if they are trying to get free, all of this can trigger scratching and biting, and this will send YOU to the doctor. Just use a lot of common sense and patience and you'll win them over. And when you do, then what? Are you going to keep them? They will need to be spayed and neutered to protect them from having more wild kittens.

Some may believe that feral cats will never become accustomed to you, but that's not true. There are feral cats in an abandoned building near where I live, and they trust me now. I feed them regularly and just being around them often helped them to get used to me. I would try just sitting in the backyard for a while every day so they are used to your presence. Once they are used to you, they will let you feed them right in front of you. I would suggest that you spay and neuter them once they are used to you if you can afford it. (Soon I will be capturing some of the feral cats and taking them to be spayed.) The feral cats I feed know my car and come running when I go there. There are even a few that let me pet and pick them up. Anything is possible!

I had a kitten that was terrified of humans for months. The best way to get them over it, is to get them kitty treats. I would also suggest picking them up a lot and holding them even if they seem scared or not wanting it. They need to get used to your smell and touch. I would also get toys, kittens are very curious so getting some toys that you can play with them will help a lot. Just spending tons of time with them whether you're just hanging out with them or playing with them will help soo much. I hope this answered your question and good luck!!!

How To Socialize Kittens

Here are some GREAT web sites:

http://urbancatleague.org/SocialKittens.htm

Here are the Search engine results

http://www.google.com/search?sourceid=navclient&ie=UTF-8&rls=GGLG,GGLG:2006-10,GGLG:en&q=how+to+socialize+feral+kittens

Please get them all (including Mama Cat Biff) spayed and neutered once the kittens are 8 weeks old. There is already a Terrible Pet Overpopulation problem in this world -- causing way too much suffering.

Alley Cat Allies can tell you how to trap em (if you have to) to bring em in for spaying and neutering -- i would also guess that you have some experienced TNR folks in your area too, who could help you out with this -- check with Alley Cat Allies to find out more.

Kittens who do not grow up with their mother or siblings are more likely to have behavior problems as they grow older. By living as a family, kittens are more subject to frustration and how to properly cope with it (e.g., the mother gets up when they want to nurse, or a sibling bothers them when they want to sleep). In a family, they learn guidelines as to what is acceptable behavior and what is not. They soon find out that biting and scratching is not tolerated. If hand-reared by people, kittens are less likely to develop inhibitions against these behaviors and are more prone to displaying them.

It's really difficult. Ferrel cats are so leery.

I have one that has adopted our back porch. I feed her several times a day. Always call Kitty Kitty when I come out to feed her. I have her dish up high. While she eating I pet her, stroke her back and tail Hopefully she will realize I am not the enemy.
