Cracking your back, neck, toes, ankles, fingers, knucles, even your Jaw. Like people with TMJS (Tetra Mandibular Joint Syndrome) which I have. Will it affect me when I am older? Now I am 27 and have been cracking my bones for about 15 years!!! It even hurts when I don't!!!

Dear DD and Kris,

Yes, it most certainly does. I have seen people in their late 30's, 40's and 50's that cannot move or use at all their hands in the mornings without first using an electrical devise to "zap" their knuckles. They popped them growing up and now they are paying the price. Popping your knuckles can cause rheumatoid arthritis. This only adds to the pain.

Unless you are seeing a licensed chiropractor, I wouldn't pop anything. I see a chiropractor once a week and get adjusted. Even he doesn't recommend someone doing it on their own. Just because it may feel good now, does not mean that you are fixing or adjusting whatever joint properly.

As far as the jaw is concerned, rest the muscles and joints by eating soft foods, do not chew gum, avoid clenching and tensing and relax muscles with a hot moist towel twice daily. I'm sure this, you already know, considering that you have TMJS.

Chiropractors can help. I run a lot and my knees would hurt and pop every time I would squat down to pick something up. They worked miracles with me and now I have no more joint pain at all.

according to my sons speciallist yes it does cause problems as you age. sounds like you already had your answer before you wrote it. your doctor can give you medicine to help with the arthritis pain you have, even if you are only 27. my son was in his early 20's when he started having troubles with his joints.
