I have a somewhat small lump in my left side. right about in the center of my ribcage. I cant tell if its beneath or on top but I can feel the lump.
Ive had it for almost 4 years. Yes I know I shouldve had it checked out along time ago but Ive been scared. Ive maybe only been sick 2 times in the past 4 years.
Any chance of living with cancer and not getting sick or having symptoms?
It doesnt hurt its just ALWAYS there and its uncomfortable

Go to a doctor immediately. This is the type of lump or bump you should never ignore. It is probably nothing, but since no one here can see it you need to be clinically examined. Lumps and bumps should never be ignored as they are the ONLY sign that cancer might be present. In young people cancer is almost always asymptomatic until the advanced stage.

Cancer is a tumor that can grow inside your body quite happily. The body does not recognize that anything is wrong. the body feeds the tumor and nourishes it in the same way it takes care of any other normal organ. Cancer starts out very, very small and if it is located in an area where growth won't press on any nerves . . than it can grow fast and big before anyone will ever notice. There are several good illustrations online about the stages of cancer . . people have a difficult time imagining what a 'stage' looks like. Take a look at the four stages of colon cancer just to get an idea:

For illustration of stages only:

Cancer is progressive. It starts out tiny and left untreated will grow large and seed the body with more tumor.

If you look at the above illustration, please note that stages I, II, III . . a person might not ever know that the cancer was there. It will not cause any symptoms that you would connect with cancer. It isn't until the cancer is large enough to metastasize that the cancer is finally 'felt' and symptoms materialize.

Go see a doctor.

When I was diagnosed w/Breast Cancer June '06 (at the age of 27) the ONLY symptoms I had was a lump in my left breast. Never was sick or showed any other symptoms. But, please, get it checked out. It's not worth it.

A person can feel perfectly fine and be getting metastisis-spread of cancer throughout their body. You know you need to see a doctor. If you put this off because of fear that is really dumb. My father-in-law did that-never went to the doctor until he had leukemia and it was too late.

It is probably nothing. Think how nice it will be to find that out.

It could be cancer.
It could be lots of things.....

Cancer doesn't necessarily have any symptoms other than the lump.

Get it checked for your own peace of mind.

If it does turn out to be cancer, then your best chance of survival is getting treatment rather than ignoring it!
